Canberra Centenary trail quest - Part 3 (Arboretum to Stromlo). 10km section, so we are now around 26km of 145km total. Walked after dark and got lost a few times. Startled a galloping wombat and many roos. All quite dark but nice.

Extremely autumnal vibes out there during today's sunbeam collecting

Two cul-de-sacs: one a certain Labor win, the other one of the safest for the Liberals. They look identical, so what makes them different? @jasemurphy.bsky.social explores the anatomy of a safe seat.

Thread: Each week I run a simulation of Australia’s main electricity grid using rescaled generation data to show that it can get very close to 100% renewable electricity with 24GW/120GWh of storage (5 hrs at av demand) Results: Last week: 100% RE Last 191 weeks: 98.7% RE (1/5)

We already protect consumers from misleading and deceptive advertising. Voters deserve the same protections. I’ll keep pushing to #stopthelies in political advertising. Voters from all sides of politics support this - the only thing holding up this reform is the major parties! #auspol

Obviously like a genius I'm researching *after* my multiday hike with a too-heavy pack. Now reading that the pack should be no more than 15-20% of body weight... And having just weighed my pack it's clear that I need to gain like 30kg (already ruling out packing better) 👀

Bought a generic medical bag on the internet to carry around meds. Maybe not the vibe I was going for.

Your regular reminder that voting at Old Parliament House is an option (and is delightful!) www.moadoph.gov.au/visit/whats-...

From the last 2 days walking between Tathra and Merimbula. Stunning coastline, and an often tough trail to traverse with a surprising amount of tree limbo and climbing & test of navigation skills.

From this morning's hike, a red bellied black snake. Immediately before this I almost stepped on a wallaby so careful observation is not really my jam.

Back on the hits

At the stage of hike prep of just assembling a pile of ridiculous foods. I'm going to need to add like 7days to the trip to get through it.

Today's walk report, from deep in Narrawallee inlet 💙 (if you can overlook the wrongness of it being 27°C at Easter)

Roaring surf and sea mist season at one of my favourite places. Just me and about 4000 roos to appreciate Bingi.

Briefly stopped for some sunbeams and seals in Narooma.

Narrawallee beams 🖤

Extremely local Canberra announcement but Lyneham bakehouse (new!) is open today and everything seems spectacular. If you like nice things I guess.

While I swore to never go back to the insanity that is Vivid in Syd, maybe I could make a exception for a rollerdisco where rollerblading is welcome? www.vividsydney.com/event/food/n...

A cool thing to happen repeatedly at 10:41pm is for a very determined spider to keep crawling over my outdoor sensor light / security camera. Because technology is next level genius I keep getting push alerts that it's human. The web part specifically is apparently human. 😐

Playing under lights means I'm basically a pro. First time back on the court in almost a year. Still have no idea.

It's cool how science definitely agrees with me that calories from Easter eggs and hot cross buns don't count. But I can't help but be angry with Cadbury for declaring a small chocolate bunny is 3 servings. 3!

Gang-gang Cockatoo, juvenile male. #birds

Actual marathon runners 👏 🎉 (Canberra Marathon Festival)

Canberra Marathon Festival 5k (extremely NOT a marathon). Started the race in fog and bushfire smoke, ended up a cracking autumn day. Beat last year's time but missed a PB because of an enthusiasm for strolling and lack of prep. So it goes. (and seriously will post fewer photos of me from now on)

Anyway, sometimes my ridiculous and unrealistic plans work out.

Extraordinary day at Feathered Friends black cockatoo conservation experience in Bargo. The birds are free to roam and not limited to the park, they can choose whether to interact with the visiting people, we were pretty lucky. What amazing little chaos dudes.

When wildlife is just assembled from a set of leftover parts (bush stone curlew = ridic)

Cracking blue sky morning for my 172nd parkrun (and 72nd at Ainslie!). Barely made it in time but worth the drama for my 202 place 🖤 #parkrunau #loveparkrun

From the peoples republic of the inner North Canberra

Weird how my rehab physio didn't seem to consider "at least I have skin to hold it all together" as a reasonable response to all the problems she identified. Professionals eh.

Starting to think bojack was inaccurate. Also every treadmill encounter I think of a friend selling theirs and an avg suburban dad buyer coming by to inspect / negotiate. His biggest focus: the top speed. Self belief is a hell of a thing I guess.

only tariff we need is on podcast mics for dudes

The news is terrible and about to get much worse so I thought I'd share that one guy in my neighborhood has fought for slow streets and bike lanes, gotten trees planted and murals made and benches placed. Small ways where you can make a difference are good for others but also for you.

This is wonderful www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle...

Every time I ask Google the time this week it should also whisper the *real* time.

Despite an unfortunate outfit combo, I know actually know nothing about fly fishing or tractors. Finally made it to Uriarra from Shepherds Lookout. Few stairs. Some raptors. No snakes. Good.

West belco goes hard. Crossing the Molonglo River towards Uriarra from Shepherds lookout. Very Canberra. You can just go here, there are no rules (you should probably go here)

Was watching insiders and then I remembered this greatness was an option.
