“Autumn Basin, Colorado,” 20” x 20” acrylic/canvas. I love intense shadows that take time for your eyes to organize whatever’s inside them, whatever’s concealed—it’s usually a lot. #Painting #Art #Acrylic #WesternArt #TraditionalArt #LandscapePainting #Mountains #Colorado #FourCorners

Absolutely LOVE this caricature-series of Hollywood’s Silent Era pioneers by mystersphinx.bsky.social Oh, these faces! Of course the film industry was janky then, too, but these forgotten stars radiate an open earnestness you don’t see much anymore.

“Gardner Lake on the Beartooth Plateau, Park Co., WY,” 10” x 10” acrylic/canvas. Rainy days at high elevation (10,000’ in this case) can make for tough driving/hiking, but they’re often great for painting. #Painting #Art #WesternArt #TraditionalArt #LandscapePainting #Mountains #Wyoming #Yellowstone

“Rabbitbrush & Emigrant Peak, Park County, MT,” 18” x 24” acrylic on canvas. In MT for my sister’s wedding a couple years ago, her friends took me to a full-on Western movie-set they’d built. This is the view east (+1 of the set). #Painting #Art #WesternArt #LandscapePainting #Mountains #Montana

“Sunset on Nameless Peaks, Eastern Nevada,” 10” x 10” acrylic on canvas. Hike up a ridge before sundown; sketch/take photos; retrace steps in the gathering darkness. Rinse, repeat. #Painting #Art #artist #AcrylicPainting #WesternArt #LandscapePainting #Mountains #Desert #Nevada

“Upper Forest Canyon from Trail Ridge, RMNP, CO” - 24” x 36” acrylic on canvas. SOLD, Pvt. collection. Commissioned piece; patron wanted a CO mountain vista in a more-realistic style. Photo’s lousy, but the paint is really thick. #Painting #Art #NationalParks #LandscapePainting #Mountains #Colorado

“Desert Playa & the Eugene Mountains, Humboldt Co., NV” 18” x 20” acrylic on canvas. I have spent more happy hours in the remotest corners of Nevada than just about anywhere else on Earth. #Painting #Art #artist #AcrylicPainting #WesternArt #LandscapePainting #Mountains #Desert #Nevada

Not sure why but whenever I’m putting food in his bowl/refilling his water over the sink, my guy feels that’s the best time to slide on through and see what’s doing. Glad I’m tall enough/he’s short enough that there isn’t any significant contact with the uncomfortables… #dog #dogs #dogsofbluesky

“Heavy Skies Over the Aspen Range, Southeastern Idaho,” 12” x 20” acrylic/canvas. From a series I painted after a 2020 work-trip took me through WY, ID, & NV the day after a blizzard. #Painting #Art #artist #AcrylicPainting #WesternArt #LandscapePainting #Mountains #Idaho #awyoming #Nevada #Winter

“Early Spring, Rio Grande Gorge above Pilar, NM,” 10” x 10” acrylic on canvas. Painted last year from a sketch I made back when my now-19-y/o was 6. Everywhere you turn, New Mexico is absolutely magical. #Painting #Art #artist #AcrylicPainting #WesternArt #LandscapePainting #Mountains #NewMexico

Four more photos from my drive between Moab, UT, and Denver yesterday… because I took hundreds. Lots of painting in my immediate future. Descriptions are in the ALT texts. #art #painting #acrylicpainting #landscapepainting #westernart #colorado #utah

Beautiful drive for work between Moab, UT, and Denver today, despite rockfall and a blown tire on a narrow mtn hwy between La Sal, UT, and Paradox, CO. Still, I did pull over to photograph & sketch fairly often, so I have lots of painting to do. #art #painting #landscapepainting #colorado #utah

Great Basin Mining Camp, Elko Co., NV, 10” x 10” acrylic on canvas. NE Nevada is the quietest place I’ve ever been: no cars, no jets overhead—only the wind in the grass & my own heartbeat. Eerie & lovely all at once. #Painting #Art #artist #AcrylicPainting #WesternArt #LandscapePainting #Mountains

“Morning Fog, Yellowstone River, Livingston, MT,” 10” x 10” acrylic on canvas. Traveling this week for work so I wanted to use up some paint before it dried out; hence, this quick sketch last night. #Painting #Art #artist #AcrylicPainting #WesternArt #LandscapePainting #Mountains #Montana

Self Portrait w/Car, eastern NV, 20” x 20” acrylic on canvas. I don’t often paint plein air & have only one photo of me in action, so… I adapted it and added a car b/c… I can. #Painting #Art #artist #AcrylicPainting #WesternArt #LandscapePainting #Mountains #Nevada #Winter #snowshoeing

Headwall Above Angel Lake, Elko Co., NV, 18” x 24” acrylic on canvas. Most folks hear Nevada & think Vegas, maybe Tahoe, maybe Reno, but the mtns are glorious & I say that as a Coloradan. #Painting #Art #artist #AcrylicPainting #WesternArt #LandscapePainting #Mountains #Nevada #Winter #snowshoeing

Green Building with Antlers, Northern Gilpin Co., CO - 20” x 20” acrylic on canvas. Also from that March 2022 snowshoe hike, & no, the bldgs clad in rusty, corrugated tin weren’t that red, but they are here. #Painting #Art #AcrylicPainting #WesternArt #LandscapePainting #Mountains #Colorado #Winter

Break in the Storm, Elko Co., NV, 20” x 20” acrylic on canvas. In 2020, I had a work trip that took me up through western WY, ID, NV right after a blizzard. Slick roads, but glorious. #Painting #Art #artist #AcrylicPainting #WesternArt #LandscapePainting #Mountains #Colorado #Winter #snowshoeing

Mine Buildings, Northern Gilpin County, CO - 10” x 10” acrylic on canvas. I painted this one late last year from sketches made during a March 2022 snowshoe hike. #Painting #Art #artist #AcrylicPainting #WesternArt #LandscapePainting #Mountains #Colorado #Winter #snowshoeing

Small (10” x 10”) acrylic on canvas of a shadowed autumn basin in Colorado’s San Juan Mountains. Took several passes to get the values right on the talus fields in the mid-distance. Midweek in autumn is the best time up into the high country: consistently good weather, & the traffic drops by 2/3.

Recent painting (10” x 10”, acrylic on canvas) of an aspen grove beside Segment Four of the Colorado Trail (recent painting, but the hike when I sketched & photographed this scene was in 2021). Color’s hard to see but happy I got the blue-gray of the sky right. #art #painting #landscapepainting

Work in progress/still more to do, but generally happy with how it’s going. No title as yet, but it’s from a sketch I made along a trail in Colorado’s Rampart Range. 18” x 24” acrylic on canvas. #art #artist #paint #painting #landscapepainting #westernart #Colorado #mountains

Busy at work lately & painting only sporadically, so I’ma repost oldies from the back-catalogue for now. This is of hay-meadows at the foot of Grays Peak in the East Humboldt Range, Nevada. 24” x 36”, acrylic on canvas. Sold/private collection.

My guy goes outside at intervals and stands 1 foot beyond the dog-door to either A) cool off a little, or B) pick up snow on his paws so he can track it all over the house. Pretty sure it’s B.

I don’t categorically hate anyone, but I definitely have my suspicions about people who rush to the front of a long line of traffic and cut in, plus the monsters who pin photos to the dead-ass wrong location in Google Earth.
