This is a nice paper on scientific publishing reform with a great history section. However, I think it poses a dichotomy that is incorrect and an obstacle to achieving lasting and meaningful reform, between unadorned preprint servers and formal review. www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...

Re-posting is appreciated: We have a fully funded PhD position in CMC lab @cmc-lab.bsky.social (at @tudresden_de). You can use forms.gle/qiAv5NZ871kv... to send your application and find more information. Deadline is April 30. Find more about CMC lab: cmclab.org and email me if you have questions.

Easily overwhelmed xox

I wrote a thing for @thetransmitter.bsky.social. The attack on scientific infrastructure happening in the US shows that relying on any one country is not a good option for science. We need to start supporting and building international, decentralised infrastructure for science.

Honest to god I think the brain is both modular and distributed as complex networks often are. Anyway, here’s a new work finding things where they shouldn’t be: academic.oup.com/brain/advanc...

We scientists would love to be left alone to do our work, but powerful people won't give us that option. Science, as the pursuit of truth, however imperfect, is fundamentally challenging to power. If we want to keep the option to do the science we want, we have to work at making science resilient. 🧪

Cortical maturation unfolds hierarchically, endowing the PFC with extended plasticity. But do timeframes of plasticity vary across PFC layers? With 7T quantitative myelin imaging, EEG, and cognitive data, we uncover heterochronous laminar maturation in the PFC 1/n. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

A good time to repost this banger from 'The Responsibility of Intellectuals' by Noam Chomsky in '67 Vance is absolutely correct: universities are - and must be - the enemy. This is why the Right is attacking scholarship globally. They want to end the privilege Chomsky's talking about in 67

Did it happen to anyone here that the editors from Nature Communications want MATLAB to be cited in figure captions if the plot is generated there? AND they say academic license isn’t good you need standard license?
