Welp, it was nice while it lasted; cold front wins over downslope warming. I was looking forward to a warm walk after work… #cowx

Realtor when we were looking in Candelas: "Rocky Flats isn't bad. It's been cleaned up." Glad we didn't buy there but those days with west downslope winds...need to get a Geiger counter.

When the macro equipment isn't ready, sometimes you've got to fall back on the old Pixel 3a and microscope attachment. Gotta focus on the small wins...pun intended.

Frustrating there are perfect dendrite snowflakes falling and 1) the macro camera battery is dead and 2) I can’t find the macro lens. Been a bit distracted the past week…

Memorial Day 1995, Al Moller took me stormchasing. My intro to Charles Doswell was a hard grilling on everything meteorology (I just graduated HS). I stood my ground when answering (on Al's advice), asked a bunch of questions, a friendship was born. Always a mentor from then on, Chuck will be missed

Why is it that the nicest days in Denver are right before the bottom falls out on temps? 60°F this afternoon, to 44° tomorrow/falling through the day, then 19° & snow Saturday. Potentially single digit highs by Monday. SO, it was scrambling to take down Xmas lights & water the spruces after work

#Windows11 fail - update broke my WSL2 install; thought I had lost a week of data (including the NTX/OK/AR winter storm) needed for future training. Luckily, 7zip can read ext4.vhdx drives that WSL creates, I can extract data (and other programs/files). Won't do that again...back to VirtualBox!

Powdery day at #SkiBreckenridge but the drive up was messy. Managed to slide a bit in the #JKUR in 4WD. Still boggles my mind Coloradans try to make it up I-70 in their non snow equipped vehicles (or going 70 in their not 4WD pickup)

@xkcd.com has been on point recently! The meteorology cartoons and now one that makes this scuba diver laugh…

I somewhat jokingly say that I wish we lived closer to the mountains for sunrises like this. Seeing California this morn, living thru the Marshall Fire & TX Panhandle Fires; changing climate makes that an unlikely thing for our safety. So, it’s sunrises on the #flatirons at work… #cowx

2 inches of fluffy dry powder at 7 am that melted down to 0.1 inches liquid. Easy 20:1 SLR conversion. Since then it looks like another unscientific inch or two; I don't want to have to get bundled up again to go measure...

Nice display of hoarfrost this morning on the trees. Even cooler is that the best formation was about 10 feet off the ground; ground to about 5 feet didn't have any and it gradually increased in thickness the higher up you went in the trees. #cowx #hoarfrost #meteorology

Now on my bucket list of things to catch here in Boulder...

Scuse me while I go for a walk and fartlek...

Had to go into Boulder today to take #Jeep back to shop (likely stuck new thermostat…for a different thread) & for my in-office day. Can confirm it is #windy (Mesa Lab peak ultrasonic gust 70+ mph); strongest gusts are making the blinds on office window window move… #cowx

Luckily Mimi is visiting us and not home, but this was still a bit too close for comfort #txwx #tornado #closecall

Having to watch SE TX this afternoon with family in the path of these storms. Never a good look when there is a string of #supercells lined up to move across Houston... #txwx

Wish it was cold enough for snow so our visiting family could have experienced a big white Christmas. However, the moisture was much needed! #cowx #rain

Southwest Airlines REALLY pushing their luck trying to get planes into KHOU with TSRA over the field. Also hardly any planes getting out so there has gotta be planes stacked up on the taxiways and tarmacs. Not good...family is trying to fly out and SWA is pushing their luck

Light flurries on #Breckenridge Peaks 8 & 9 with mixed run conditions. Some groomed, some icy but all fun! #cowx

Lenticular #clouds showing off right before sunset #cowx

Front range showing off at sunset this evening! #cowx

The $22 engine coolant temperature sensor is 1) a PITA to fix on a 2013 JK Wrangler, 2) better clear engine code P0128 so I can pass emissions test, 3) needs fewer plastic tabs on the fender cover (broke 4 out of 12) & 5) reminds me why I dream of an actual shop to work on my own cars someday...

Vicinity funnel cloud freezing volcanic ash with heavy blowing unknown precip would be a new one for me that I would like to experience. However, it's probably a spider web on the present weather sensor...

Ski legs are still shaky but it’s slowly coming back. First runs of this season under the belt…now time for a mediocre overpriced lunch on the mountain. #breckenridge #pbjnexttime

Folks, get regular cancer screenings. Friend my age had melanoma removed 6 years ago; it likely had already metastasized to brain & lungs. Found major tumor on brain a month ago, removed w/ surgery & was to start chemo today. Passed away early this morning & haven’t heard why. Life is too short… 😢

Spotted in the wild in Arvada. Kiddo2 asked me to get him one 😂 Not sure I’d want to drive that on Wadsworth Blvd though… #shelbycobra

Bummer…all but one of the plastic screw connectors on my 40 year old #Atari 2600 broke when opening up to see why the power light was dim. It needed some TLC and likely new capacitors, now it needs a new black clamshell case. And an old TV I can tune to channel 3…

I don’t have much of a green thumb but I’ve managed to keep this Christmas cactus going. Bit early blooming this year but at least it has made it this long!

Another day it’s cold enough for #snow but not cold enough for big accumulation. 0.9 inches @ 7 am, 0.13 liquid equivalent yielding 6.9:1 SLR (Colorado Concrete when cleaning the driveway). Couple of heavy bands moved through since then, may have over an inch of depth by now. #cowx
