seeding the dark, Deborah Digges

Novel rewrite is at 49,500 words and I'm only 3/5 of the way done. This time last draft, I was wrapping up the action entirely. Here's to new growth!

All morning the / Morning has been blackening, / —Sylvia Plath

Two rejections for writing things I *really* wanted. At least space them out, guys, come on...

Really pleased to have two poems from GRIEF SUITE in the new issue of Modern Language Studies, and even more pleased to be presenting on Ilya Kaminsky's DEAF REPUBLIC and women-led utopian resistance narratives at NeMLA (which sponsors MLS!) in two weeks.

40,000 words of the novel rewrite logged and not anywhere close to being done. It's a relief and a pain---last draft clocked in at 55,000 words total, so I'm glad to be blowing past it, but also I wish I could skip to the part where the draft can stand on its own.

You know, I'm usually a cynic when it comes to love, but I got to spend the weekend with someone I adore and we went to the NYPL and walked the Brooklyn promenade and watched movies in bed with a bottle of Georgian wine and if there is such a thing as happiness, I finally found it, I finally did.

Nothing stronger than the bond between a NYC student and their preferred bagel shop.

Still, There are good things in this world. James Wright

My poem "Feral" is up on @versedaily.bsky.social today. Thank you to @jpdancingbear.bsky.social who also loves animals. As I typed this post I found myself longing for a photo of the cat who was my childhood companion.

Section 2 (of the novel) Electric Boogaloo done, we are now rocking a cool 34,161 words.

:)

Hit 30K of the novel rewrite and I am so ready to be done with this section it's actually making my teeth itch.

Little unpublished love poems for your Valentine's Day perusing.

Got ya something

Ordered my Dad's doctoral dissertation to use it in a Secret Poetry Project and I'm having a lot of feelings about the whole following in his footsteps thing.

It’s official!! The Sweating Sickness, my third book of poetry, is out today from @upittpress.bsky.social! I’m so proud of these poems, and hope you love them.

Not feeling the greatest today and dragged myself out to put some books in the free library, and this older man about my Dad's age saw me putting books into the cubby and started very excitedly telling me about discovering Louise Penny's books there and it was the most wholesome thing. I love books.

There is genuinely almost nothing better than getting feedback from someone who *gets* the story I'm working on, like you GET it, you get my weird anxious little characters who are weird and anxious with each other! In other words, my throuple anxiety story found its reader.

So excited to see brilliant friend and poet Hayley Bowen on this list!!!!

coffee ain’t gonna cut it today. i need a week by the sea that ends with me being eaten by a shark.

Emailing with a professor from undergrad and attaching my most recent projects (when he asked about them, important context) and I'm feeling eerily similar to a kid showing their parent a finger painting

My test print arrived.

NOT NOW, MELVILLE. READ THE ROOM.

But shall this crazed old man be tamely suffered to drag a whole ship’s company down to doom with him?

Tonight's bedtime poetry

I got an email from a former student yesterday asking me to write one of their rec. letters and today, the Dept. of Education is under attack. I am stunned in the worst way by how this will affect educators and students everywhere in this stonewalling of resources and aid and need to vocalize (1/2)

Just bought pineapple AND strawberries at the grocery store, so it's safe to say I will never ever own a home ever ever

If you cannot call it what it is when all in a week: a government removes every mention of a group of people, destroys information about them en masse, bans their discussion in schools, restricts their ability to travel and starts seizing and refusing their official identification, when will you?

After 16 tries, I got these two poems accepted in Adroit, and yeah, this is the right time, as it should be--near poets I love, with poems that are ready.

Chose to rewrite the novel fully instead of copying and pasting things from the previous draft and I do regret to tell you it's made it so much better, oh my god, and this is only having finished section one.

Honestly the best part of this whole writing books thing for me is finding out who the project is dedicated to---it's like tracing a genealogy of who's taken care of me during the writing process and who was the inspiration. It's always such a thrill.

good morning from this Adam Hammer poem

It's been really tempting to disappear into my stacks of academic papers---it's been hard finding footing to do creative work---but today someone said they were really looking forward to reading the two projects I've got in progress and sometimes that's all you need to get going.
