Yesterday’s briefing was in response to CM Balducci legislation to “stress test” funding sources in King County. Based on Director Dively's report, it's clear we must remain vigilant in the face of federal funding uncertainty. Read more >>> kingcounty.gov/en/dept/coun...

Today, the King County Council's Committee of the Whole advanced CM Balducci's legislation to ensure we’re getting approximately $34 million in one-time Doors Open Levy operating grant funding out the door to arts, sciences, and heritage organizations ASAP.

Today’s announcement that Connections Health Solutions will operate King County’s first crisis center is a shining example of what we can accomplish when we work regionally, cooperatively, and creatively: lives are saved, people receive the care they need, communities are safer. 1/3

Moments ago, the King County Council unanimously passed my legislation that calls for a stress test of our county’s exposure to federal funding volatility. We need a clear-eyed view of our risk and exposure and a plan for future funding uncertainties and that's what this legislation does.

Today, I introduced legislation that calls for a stress test of King County’s exposure to federal funding volatility and to plan for how the county could respond in the face of those threats, especially for our essential human services agencies. Read the release >>> kingcounty.gov/dept/council...

I’ve been fighting for light rail on the Eastside and across the region for 15+ years and today is one of the highlights of that long fight. Downtown Redmond Link Extension opens May 10.

See you in Downtown Redmond on May 10!!

100 days until light rail to Downtown Redmond!!! 🚈🕙🛤️🏙️ Starting May 10 you can catch a concert at Marymoor Park, enjoy a day of shopping at Redmond Town Center, and explore the culinary delights of downtown Redmond with a quick, easy trip on light rail! #DRLE @sound-transit.bsky.social

In the review of Metro’s 2024 service report, I asked how we can better track “ghost buses,” aka unplanned trip cancellations, that were a scourge during the pandemic. This is personal for me - and for many riders - who know how frustrating & confusing it can be when a scheduled bus doesn’t show up.

We are already hearing of the damages this move will inflict - for example an eastside human services agency serving youth tells us this could close their doors, putting young people on the streets. At the King County Council we will quickly review the impacts and consider how to respond.

Today, I joined @weareoneamerica.bsky.social, community, state & local leaders as Gov. Ferguson signed an executive order creating a rapid response team to recommend policies & actions for addressing the family separation & the lasting effects on children that would occur if mass deportations happen

🚨🚨🚨 Check out this week's @sound-transit.bsky.social light rail vehicle sighting in Redmond! 👀 And get ready for the Downtown Redmond and Marymoor Village station openings later this spring!

At the Sound Transit meeting this am, we are advancing new housing in Federal Way & Seattle’s U District. Once upon a time, the agency’s attitude was “we don’t do housing” but after years of hard work we are now providing thousands of affordable homes near transit. Today we’re adding hundreds more.

These are vulnerable employees, they should be protected, and the law does protect them. The best way to send the message that you are protected is to enforce the rules. Yesterday, I convened a special King County Council meeting because we need to take immediate action. 1/4 https://buff.ly/3WfDqGA

Thoughtful piece on the challenges ahead for the Governor and Legislature as they face a challenging budget session if they seek to fully fund education, behavioral health and other key priorities. You could use an analogous outline to illustrate the challenges ahead for our King County budget too.

I was deeply moved to join the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) yesterday to remember King County Metro Transit Operator Shawn Yim. After listening carefully to our transit operators, I am committed to using all available tools to implement what we heard from ATU, as well as additional strategies >>>

I am deeply saddened and horrified by the news that a Metro Transit operator was killed while working on one of our buses this morning. Read my statement here >>> kingcounty.gov/dept/council...
