Technology Review's reporting on science and technology is world class. Everything they write is worth reading.

"a voice from the nondead past started talking, she closed her ears and it spelled out in her hand 'you might as well answer the door, my child, the truth is furiously knocking.' " -- Lucille Clifton #QOTD #poetry www.boaeditions.org/products/how...

The time to read books is *before* they're banned.

New day job thing. Includes a (sort of) accessible discussion of why LLMs use such enormous computing resources. semiengineering.com/memory-wall-...

One of society's lies is that artistic experience and expression should be managed by The Academy. That we need a gatekeeper's permission to create, and to tell us what is "good." But we've been making art and listening to poets and storytellers since before our illiterate ancestors tamed fire.

K, here's my thing about heroes vs. villains. Being good/a hero (and by that I mean, making the best choices one can to help others, do no harm and make shit better) is hard as hell in a world that is often cruel and rewards selfish behavior. "Good" is a choice you have to make over and over...

Choose Your Adventure, a microfiction. Science: Car A impacts Car B, producing Force F. Engineering: Seat belts! Crumple zones! Air bags! Economics: Here's what all that costs. Business: Oof. Maybe in our luxury models. Government (1): Sucks to be poor. Government (2): Poor Lives Matter.

Equations are cold because humans make them that way. Or not.

State AGs are looking for federal workers who have just been illegally fired to stand as litigants in a new lawsuit trying to freeze further action by DOGE. DM me if that’s you and you’re interested and you’re live in one of the following states: NM, AZ, CA, CT, MD, MI, MN, NV, OR, WA, RI, or VT.

Most of my research involves recent technical developments, not historical maps, but my experience is similar. Writing is a process of building my own mental map of the topic, then describing it for readers. AI "summaries" strip out exactly the details that I need.

Uh, Universe, this administration provided plenty of inspiration for my WIP the first time around. I'm all set now, thanks.

I made this Pride flag using only NASA images and our team thought it would be cool to share on social (I work on the NASA heliophysics communications team), but it's getting all sorts of hate on the bird app and Fbook. Thought y'all might be more appreciative of it here. ☺️🏳️‍🌈💖
