Thank you, Keira!! this was mind blowing to me. 31% of the trade paper @nytimes.com bestsellers list. All 5 of the big five combined did 39%. The #sourcebooks team worked so hard last year. I love this for all of our authors!!

PublishersWeekly's data analysis of 2024's bestseller lists of adult fiction & nonfiction in hardcover & trade paperback found that @sourcebooks.bsky.social dominated the TPB scene--a 35-yr-old indie started by a visionary publisher Dominique Raccah @draccah.bsky.social now excels over the Big Five.

Such exciting news! I cannot wait to read this. Didion's Magical Thinking is one of my favorite books, and this promises to be in the same vein--personal, intimate, and poignant, made more so by her spare prose. This is a book to savor in print, not digital.

Happy Imbolc! Imbolc is usually celebrated on February 1, the exact midpoint between Winter Solstice and Spring Equinox, a part of the Ancient Wheel of the Year, a part of the Solar cycle. In celebration, here are the first flowers from my garden.

What an amazing opportunity to study with the inimitable Claire Keegan, one of my favorite writers. Keegan is offering two residencies, one in February on Raymond Carver and one in March on short stories.

Volunteer opportunities in Southern CA for medical and non-medical volunteers.

Attended a lovely Macbeth on Sunday, staged by a community theater troupe in a church. The actors made excellent use of the recreated Shakespearean circular stage space, including the balcony and many exits. Superb acting and stage direction, and the intimate seating couldn't be beat.

Would that be falling rhymes or failing rhymes?? 😎

Color of the sky at 5:10pm. Not only is it beautiful, but it is also not pitch dark before 5. w00t! The light has returned, and brought with it, life. Such an ephemeral color though. A flash and then gone. The two pictures were taken 30 seconds apart. (click to see in full)

Donna Ashworth: When I say ‘happy new year’, I’m really wishing you, a baseline of peace, of gratitude. If you can nourish these things, daily, you will also grow hope, for it flourishes in such soil. And hope is the key, to this enigmatic state of ‘happiness’ we seek. 1/

I'm chuckling witnessing the "civil war" on X between MAGA diehards and Trump's new monied supporters, Musk and the Tech Bros, over H1-B (foreign workers) visas. MAGA: "Immigrants are taking over our jobs." Tech Bros: "Americans are not skilled enough." OOPSIES!

My book club did our version of the Icelandic tradition Jólabókaflóð by reading all day on Boxing Day in our pajamas & fuzzy socks & eating charcuterie & chocolate w/ periodic check-ins over Zoom. I am of course wearing my bespoke earrings & drinking tea out of a banned books mug.

Wishing you all Merry Christmas. Christmas to me is not fancy parties and lots of people, but rather, Hygge en Famille—laughter, food, conversations, and companionable silences.

May you find peace in the promise of the solstice night That each day forward is blessed with more light That the cycle of nature unbroken and true Brings joy to your soul and well-being to you.  🎨Elin Manon

Today for #GivingTuesday, please support your public libraries, city and county. When budget cuts are needed, the libraries are the first to go.

Had to break my hiatus for the below article felt important to share. Back on my break through the end of the year.
