it's amazing how little fanfare it has, it's just this little guy!!! also, great thread this

Happy 10th birthday to the Ea-Nasir complaint tablet meme! A glorious decade of memes, mashups, merchandise, erotic fanfic, real-life copper fraud, and pilgrimages to the British Museum. Thread 🧵:

Yes, it was so fun to collaborate on these diagrams! At first glance they may *look* like fairly ordinary "most history books have things like this" diagrams, but a lot of thoughtful & even subversive & progressive choices can go into such diagrams. The politics of diagramming, a thread: 1/?

Do I know any readers in the Albany, NY area? Maybe some who might be interested if I did a talk?

They only want the last 10 years of XP on the resume anyway. At the end of the job list I put "For additional past positions, please enquire."

#SFFChat Question I: What does "beauty" mean in your WIP or finished work? I love worldbuilding and physical landscapes often come to mine. In Fire Heart, the protagonist often retreats to a forest fragment where she lives - to her, it's a beautiful place. The botany and fauna reflect its beauty.

Trump has deployed active military to help round up migrants and put them into detention camps. The military forced us out of our homes at gunpoint in 1942 because we were considered possibly disloyal Americans. They sent us to internment camps for four years. History is repeating. Pay attention.

I finally read @wiswell.bsky.social's "D.I.Y." this month and it was wonderful. There's such a wealth of excellent sci-fi, fantasy, and horror short fiction out there and I wish we waxed lyrical about short fiction as much we do novels. reactormag.com/d-i-y-john-w...

I will pay full attention to what Mother Superior Dorothy of the Vehement Rose says.

✨WHEEZING✨

This is a sewing pattern. It is also a page from a late 14th century manuscript that is one of two primary sources for an important Icelandic saga (Sturlunga saga), but that was probably not important to the 17th century person who really needed a sewing pattern. #upcycling

omg hi new people my name is ladz, i'm nonbinary (agender), and I write gross books that fuck real hard, here's all the places you can get them ladzwriting.carrd.co

I am trying to read more in print so picked up Fullmetal Alchemist by Hiromu Arakawa. Our library has all 27 volumes! I watched the anime a few years ago but never read the manga. Let's go!

Working around writer's block is involving listening to writing, fiction, and history podcasts that I really enjoyed last time before 2020, when I could read and write much more easily.

I need magazines to publish their rates of pay for me to sub there. I'm sorry. I cannot recommend magazines even in this time of everything closing that don't list their rates of pay because I can't guarantee to people I'm reccing the mag to that everyone is receiving the same payment.

Tired of seeing so many skills and areas of expertise basically being reduced to "why can't AI do it instead?" What can I say? I'm a humanist.

Paleography remains one of the most important skills in the humanities. Wonderful thread with some great examples.

"even when resistance didn’t *win* it did *work*. It saved lives & livelihoods."

Okay friends. I have 5 copies of my very trans, very gay, very anti-capitalist murder book sitting here, waiting for personalizations, for anybody with a U.S. address who shows me a receipt for a $75 donation to the @nrdc.org, @abortionfunds.bsky.social, or Trans Santa (www.transanta.com/donate)

Unveiling the official U.S. cover for WEARING THE LION! My next book, about the messy relationship between Hera and Heracles. So glad to finally share this with y'all. I love its striking colors, and the creatures it hints at--each is a huge part of the book. The art is by Adam Auerbach! #BookSky

Buckle up, friends, it’s time for the real life “I fart in your general direction”: Marquis Francesco Gonzaga’s unforgettable reply to the 1503 duel challenge from Galeazzo Sanseverino. #HistoryPix 1/? (Teaser countdown to the book release of “Inventing the Renaissance” day 4.)

Writing fiction again feels good. Even if it goes only as far as a friend or two, it feels good to get words down and work through some ideas and feelings.

Meet one of my favorite Renaissance friends: Galeazzo Sanseverino, a mercenary whom contemporary sources describe as the sexiest thing in pants in Italy, part of the badass polycule threesome that ruled Milan in the early 1490s. Your eyeballs can't have more fun than when reading Murderbot. It's science.

People say that only humans tell stories but I believe crows are gossiping about us in their murders all the time.

It's my first story of 2025! Enjoy some cozy SF for this bitter, cold season:
