Looking forward to engaging with scholars in the Moral Economies of Medicine working group at UNC Chapel Hill #Anthropology later this week. We'll discuss a chapter of my book manuscript in progress, Care After Zika, on #disability and #care in the wake of the Zika virus epidemic in #Brazil.

Just received a long email from my university unit (global health) on "staying safe" while working on "politicized" issues (like health equity, HIV prevention and treatment, social determinants of health). It includes a promise of an active shooter training. 🫠

Me: This whole thing about daycare recording every diaper change, ever meal, plus photos of playtime is really weird and surveillance-statey. Also me: *Checking the app every five seconds at work to see if there's a new photo of my baby eating a snack*

Long overdue intro post! I'm a medical anthropologist writing about #care, #reproduction, #epidemics and #pandemics, and #disability, though not necessarily in that order, and not all at the same time. Currently writing a book manuscript on the aftermath of the Zika virus epidemic in Brazil. 1/?

This was the motto of the civil society movement to resist Bolsonaro’s right wing authoritarianism in Brazil. I learned it from @annagalland.bsky.social and love it. Would love to see American designers do their own interpretations.

Some good news in these surreal, dystopian times: two of my former students/mentees, for whom i wrote letters of recommendation, have been admitted to their schools of choice! An MA program for one, med school for another. Small rays of hope in an otherwise harrowing landscape.

CUNY has apparently spent $4M to hire a Mossad alum’s company to provide security vs. anti-genocide protesters. Security managers for the company receive “formal training in Israel.” Literally bringing the genocidal violence home to campus. www.ynetnews.com/article/bjdn...

I'm a breastfeeding academic heading to first multi-day conference sans baby. What am I inevitably forgetting to take with me? Got pump & parts, cleaning stuff for parts, pads/liners, ice packs & insulated case... ??

Intro post coming soon, I promise

I'm here :)
