As popes go, Francis has been quite a good one. I hope we have some more time with him.

Being a Black person and being a woman makes a person DEI, apparently. Not a DEI hire, but DEI itself. Per the NYT.

If you’re wondering why I declined to talk to the NYTimes, then you haven’t been following my account for very long. They bear a direct responsibility for the current situation we find ourselves in, and I responded by laying out my position and that I would only talk to @jamellebouie.net

If you’re going to avoid saying Trump lies because you can’t prove his state of mind, you should also avoid saying he’s just trolling when you can’t prove that state of mind.

A prayer for Pope Francis.

Giddy

The very idea that the only reason to celebrate Frederick Douglass is because of his 'immutable characteristics', as opposed to the ones he used to become one of the greatest Americans in our history, is absurd. Why not just stop celebrating people, period?

Garlic bread, white wine sautéed spinach with roasted tomato and balsamic reduction, fettuccine with garlic white beans/eggplant/mushrooms/peas, lemon basil turkey meatballs:

Mosses are plants Roses are flowers Congress has abrogated Its constitutional powers

Lame. Weak. Useless. Cowardly.

So much depends On what a federal judge Deems arbitrary and capricious. (With apologies to Wallace Stevens)

Perhaps the first congressional First Amendment citation to use the Mocking SpongeBob alternating caps, also known as spongecase

I thought they were all self-made rugged individualists who didn’t rely on socialism.

Why do actual imposters never suffer from imposter syndrome? Trump’s cabinet drops by to explain.

Only someone completely demented or completely in the pocket of the administration could look at what’s happening now and write that Trump has “raise[d] a populist, working-class revolt on the interests that once held sway in the capital.” I’m going to scream but what if I never stop.

AP's still banned and the rest of the White House press corps leaves them hanging. I honestly don't get it. Didn't they all rally around Fox News a couple years ago?

The uncomfortable truth is the "Trump campaigned on egg prices" thing is something Dems tell themselves to rationalize what happened in November. Trump actually campaigned on hate and abusing power -- and won! The sorry state of the American electorate is a difficult thing to come to terms with.

I don't even really know how to put this in words but one of the signal experiences of the last decade is being confronted, over and over again, with how *weak* this country is. How hollow. There was so much less substance to it, to its leaders & institutions, than anyone thought.

Click on the magnifying glass icon in your browser bar, then select "DuckDuckGo" as your default search engine.

Just did it myself. Just because.

This is a choice the establishment press will have to make in ways large & small - whether to be an organ of propaganda in to preserve direct access to propagandists and liars or to be an independent source of reported information about reality that follows the facts and that it’s audience can trust

Catholic MAGA supporters are about to cancel the Pope for criticizing Vance and their golden calf, Trump.

in what meaningful way can we say that the constitution is in effect when an unelected and unaccountable billionaire is wielding state power to unilaterally cancel congressional appropriations?

Snoop Dogg and Brady in an anti hate commercial even as they both support Trump, a racist. LOL.

not sure Snoop Dogg fresh off performing at Trump’s inauguration is the best spokesperson for Stand Up To Hate tbh

"Growing up in 1980s Northern Wisconsin, as an awkward kid trying to act naturally male, I was bullied and beaten so badly and so frequently for so long that my family eventually had to sell our house and move to a new school district." www.jessicariedl.blog/p/yes-my-nam...

watching SAY ANYTHING for the first time in a long time, this movie rocks

There's a lot of reasons why we're here but none rise to the top like Merrick Garland and his "norms."

We need experts to tell us the water isn’t going to jump over the mountains on its own.

In its simplest terms, the apparent demise of #USAID is the result of the world's richest man ending a program that helps millions of poor people. You don't need a Ph.D. in moral theology to see why this is an evil. You can just read Jesus's parables on the rich and the poor.

This is the kind of day for which curling up with felines and Anne of Green Gables feels appropriate. And yes, I’m dreaming of escaping to Prince Edward Island.

I'm struck by the near-total failure of leadership across civil society, in a country that fetishizes the concept. Whole sections of leadership books at every bookstore. Named, endowed "leadership" institutes and curricula across higher ed. Awards and special recognition for "leaders." AND YET

Honestly, is Chuck Schumer doing some elaborate performance art of “not getting it”?

Hillary Clinton did not follow federal rules on her email as Secretary of State and it was a huge media scandal Donald Trump is violating a foundational aspect of the Constitution as part of an unprecedented assault on US democracy and the media can't be bothered to cover it with the same intensity

Donald Trump and Elon Musk believe their power is unchecked and unaccountable to Congress and the courts. The scary thing is at this point I’m not sure they’re wrong.

This assumes that the major polling firms a) bother to actually conduct & publish legitimate opinion polls and b) the same news outlets which are paying millions in tribute to Trump right now bother to report them.

A haiku: FBI leaders demand lists of agents who enforced the law

Pew Research estimates that 79% of hetero married women change their surname on marriage. Approx 69 mil American women no longer have a birth certificate that matches their legal name -- and that would, under this bill, disqualify them from voting. www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/...

I’d be curious to hear a defense or explanation of word choices like “legal niceties” It’s similar to other recent coverage, e.g., saying “appeared to stumble” or “lacked familiarity” when a nominees like RFK Jr. got basic facts wrong. Such word choice paints a dangerously inaccurate picture.
