MANY of us spend dozens of hours a week, completely unpaid, compromising our physical & mental health, job opportunities, etc in an attempt to undo the harm that lobbyists do with a single email or phone call to our elected officials. Lobbyists & electeds who bow to them are a cancer to all of us.

To me, this is the part that’s most upsetting about the entire exchange. And this type of lobbyist influence isn’t limited to cars and bike lanes. Think Fusus — if we had not BUSTED OUR ASSES for FREE, the lobbyists would’ve won that. And they still might! It’s exhausting.

In Nashville if you want safe infrastructure for walking & biking, you fill out a bunch of surveys, attend dozens of meetings, & wait 5-10 years. If you want car infrastructure & you're wealthy & connected you just send a couple emails. Metro will immediately bow down to your wishes.

Did not have @nashvillebanner.bsky.social letting David Raybin (lawyer for FOP opposing community oversight) openly rail Theeda Murphy (community oversight organizer) on my bingo card. They call Murphy a “local progressive organizer” but Raybin is just a “Nashville attorney”. Context matters.

There’s a lot here, but one thing that stands out (& is new to me) is the part about MNPD artificially inflating response time. When many of us attended Fusus demo in November, the main reason cited for Fusus was the need to reduce response time. One might wonder if those response times are accurate
