Truly, a well-written remembrance of Gene Hackman, master of the character’s smile or laugh that implied so much more. Of the dozens of movies in which he had memorable roles, we chose to watch “Unforgiven” last night. cc @craigcalcaterra.bsky.social in case he hasn’t seen this.

I didn’t know #FlyDay was a thing; here’s a double-crested cormorant on the wing, with a jet about seven miles in the background.

I enjoyed watching these two pied-billed grebes last weekend— the one on the right borrowed the fish from the one on the left; the latter seemed none too pleased. At Clark County Wetlands Park, near #lasvegas. #birds

I’ve taken many photos of American coots, but I’ve never been able to get one that shows their weird feet — until today. For a bird that spends so much of its time swimming, these feet seem … ill-designed. They know what they’re doing, I suppose. At Clark County Wetlands Park, near #lasvegas. #birds

Thanks to all for your kind remembrances on this awful day. Words will come later. Only feelings at the moment. Mourn and remember him but don’t forget to celebrate too. We won’t see his like again. The man from another place has gone home. #DavidLynch #TwinPeaks

Been too long since I’ve seen this one — great, great movie. So intense!

Was woefully unaware that it’s #woodduckwednesday; nonetheless, here we are, from Albuquerque, New Mexico, a couple of years ago. #birds

“The Last Days of the Dinosaurs” was one of the best non-fiction books I’ve read in recent years. Admittedly, it’s in my wheelhouse (I’m all about the mass-extinction events), but Black wrote an extraordinarily thought-provoking work.

I’m a male, white, middle-aged former (by choice) journalist and this story makes me angry. I can’t imagine how someone without my advantages, none of which I earned, feels.

Personally I think the threshold for holding someone accountable for threats & incitement should be on a sliding scale where the more power and influence you have, the lower the threshold. Even lower if your fan base skews hateful & armed. It’s maddening watching the sliding scale go the wrong way.
