The layers here—of trolling, teasing, hoping to provoke, hoping to distract, yet also wanting to toss some chum to the Trump cultists—can blind you to the most obvious thing: how very offensive it is, and how deeply inappropriate for a government social-media account.

Max Richter performs, with the American Contemporary Music Ensemble, his “In a Landscape” and “Blue Notebooks.” Good to be here at the Kennedy Center on the day Trump said he will seek to eliminate the National Endowment for the Arts and the Humanities - it feels like an act of resistance.

All of this on a weekday we’re in complete awe of you. You always rise to every call to action. You’re amazing, and words can’t express how much we love and appreciate you all.

Socialism is what they called public power.  Socialism is what they called social security.    Socialism is what they called the growth of free and independent labor organizations.   Socialism is their name for almost anything that helps all the people. —Harry Truman, 1952

America is not a Christian nation. America is a nation where the rich and powerful have reduced Christianity to just another tool to exploit for their own interests at the expense of the very people Jesus called us to serve: the poor, the hungry, the sick, the stranger, and the oppressed.

“Unless you see a thing in the light of love,” poet Kathleen Raine (1908-2003) wrote, “you do not see a thing at all.” Christ is risen! He is risen indeed!

“It's hypocrisy to call yourself a Christian and chase away a refugee or someone seeking help, someone who is hungry or thirsty, toss out someone who is in need of my help. If I say I am Christian, but do these things, I'm a hypocrite." -Pope Francis

Pope Francis’s "Urbi et Orbi" Easter speech: “How much contempt is stirred up at times towards the vulnerable, the marginalized and migrants...I appeal to all those in positions of political responsibility in our world not to yield to the logic of fear which only leads to isolation from others.”

the green of Jesus is breaking the ground and the sweet smell of delicious Jesus is opening the house and the dance of Jesus music has hold of the air and the world is turning in the body of Jesus and the future is possible ~Maryland poet laureate Lucille Clifton (1936-2010), "spring song"

Tonight is the 250th anniversary of Paul Revere’s midnight ride. May his memory remind us all to resist the tyranny forming in our government.

Paul Revere didn't make his midnight ride to make this asshole a king...

NEW: Tonight is the 250th anniversary of Paul Revere's midnight ride, and tomorrow the anniversary of the Battles of Lexington and Concord. What do they mean to us today? From Lindsay Chervinsky, @lmchervinsky.bsky.social: www.thebulwark.com/p/lexington-...

“The gospel of Jesus is not a rational concept to be explained in a theory of salvation, but a story about God’s presence in Jesus’ solidarity with the oppressed, which led to his death on the cross.

AP has it now.

I said my main goal of this trip was to meet with Kilmar. Tonight I had that chance. I have called his wife, Jennifer, to pass along his message of love. I look forward to providing a full update upon my return.

Van Hollen says that he asked the VP of El Salvador why his government continues to hold Abrego Garcia even though he’s not charged with any crime and there’s no evidence that he’s MS-13. “His answer was that the Trump administration is paying the government of El Salvador to keep him at CECOT”

A savvy US judge doing the research just blew up Trump's, Vance's, Rubio's, and Bukele's "I have no control over Kilmar Ábrego García's fate either!" lies.

I want to tell you why the case of Kilmar Abrego Garcia should matter to you. The one power you cannot give the executive is the ability to imprison or expel anyone regardless of their legal rights. That is our key check against autocracy. And we are watching it disappear.

“God hasn’t forgotten about you.”

On April 4, 2025, The New York Times reported that the U.S. Naval Academy removed 381 books from its college library. Among the banned volumes are influential and award-winning books, including several key works in the study of religion in America that examine race, gender, and sexuality.

I hate to be that guy, but this is the five-alarm fire, and every elected Democrat and frankly, every Washington reporter should be ringing the bell. If it can happen to him, it can happen to anyone. Nobody with a voice should give this administration a moment’s peace about it.

Harvard stepping up for the fight with fascism is big news. Even bigger news is Trump's declaration that he won't comply with court orders and that he plans to start imprisoning U.S. citizens abroad based on "evidence" his DOJ says it doesn't have to and won't reveal.

Bonhoeffer wrote, “God consents to be pushed out of the world and onto the cross; God is weak and powerless in the world and in precisely this way, and only so, is at our side and helps us.” His way of weakness and suffering love leads into the Empire of God. catonsvillepres.org/sermons/foll...

He’s threatening media companies who are critical of him. He’s talking about sending Americans to foreign prisons. He’s signing executive orders to investigate former staff members who spoke out against him. He’s defying the Supreme Court. Don’t you see what’s happening here?

Just heard of the passing of Douglas John Hall. One of Canada's great theologians, and somebody who took seriously the question of what it means to do theology in Canada today. May light perpetual shine upon him.

“The accumulation of all powers, legislative, executive, and judiciary in the same hands … may justly be pronounced the very definition of tyranny.” Federalist No. 47 (James Madison)

The President’s unprecedented Executive Order yesterday targeting Messrs. Chris Krebs and Miles Taylor for nothing but the exercise of their First Amendment rights is the President’s most constitutionally corrupt Executive Order to date.

"...for the growing good of the world is partly dependent on unhistoric acts; and that things are not so ill with you and me as they might have been, is half owing to the number who lived faithfully a hidden life, and rest in unvisited tombs." ~George Eliot (1819-1880), _Middlemarch_

OPINION: "The local Austrians claimed they had not known about their town’s concentration camp. But a farmer who lived nearby…filed a complaint asking the Nazis either to stop 'these inhuman deeds' or do them 'where one does not see it.”"
