As a rare disease patient, I made great friends through patient support groups. We were so excited to meet at the annual FDA-NIH Rare Disease Day tomorrow. But it’s cancelled. udnf.org/udnf-stateme...

Gregg is a former Marine and Forest Service ranger. He's saved the lives of hikers dangling off a cliff or going through cardiac arrest, and he's bravely fought forest fires to save small rural towns. 100% of his salary is paid by WA state. Elon fired him. Share his story.

"I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States." Donald Trump:

Valor Danielle Sassoon, Acting U.S. attorney for SDNY - refuses to drop Adams charges and resigns John Keller, Acting head of DOJ Public Integrity Section - refuses and resigns Kevin Driscoll, Acting head of DOJ Criminal Division - refuses and resigns www.nbcnews.com/politics/jus...

This Justice news out of SDNY is remarkable. If the press isn’t focusing on the Watergate comparisons here it is a remarkable dereliction of duty.

This is Jerry Lawson. He invented the video game cartridge for the Fairchild Channel F system. Because of his invention, many consoles had cartridges and CD formats and would become the norm. The Atari 2600, NES, Genesis, and many consoles wouldn't exist without him. Happy Black History Month.

Academic Skyers: I am compiling a list of policies and statements from various universities about how they are handling the "pause" in terms of stopping expenditures (or not). Please respond to this post with your institution and materials. THANK YOU!

If you're a scientist that serves on an NSF panel that got cancelled today, I'd love to talk to you about it for an NPR story. DM, email or reach out on signal.

to continue @statnews.com’s coverage of changes/disruptions at the NIH, FDA and CDC we need YOU 🫵 If you are researcher impacted by these changes or at one of these agencies and want to share ur experience fill out this form below (we won’t share w/o permission) www.statnews.com/2025/01/25/t...

“The impact of the collective executive orders and directives appears devastating.” scim.ag/40ureTO

Study sections are the review panels that allocate NIH research grants. They bring in experts from around the country and have to be scheduled many months in advance; they provide the funds that keep the nation's biomedical research going. It's hard to overstate the disruption this causes.

Most folks do not understand how far in advance the planning and logistics of NIH grants take. We prepare for months or years for these submissions for one of 3 cycles per year. This study section cancellation delays grants by at least 6 months when study sections are cancelled.

Stalled experiments, unpaid researchers, pipeline scientists lost due to lack of funds… this is an acceleration to the dark ages

NIH appears to have canceled/postponed all of its study sections—the independent review panels that approve federal grants for health research. Such grants fund the work/salaries of 300k people at more than 2,500 institutions

It only took Ron Desantis and Chris Rufo two years to wreck this once outstanding college. It was too woke. Had too many LBGT students. So they took it over and wrecked it while enriching their cronies along the way.

As we see emerging reports of voting issues on Election Day (e.g. malfunctioning machines), it's can be helpful to understand how rumors around these issues can mislead — often by exaggerating impact, ignoring remedies, or falsely attributing intent.

In much of the US, it’s the last week to register to vote in the US election in November. Do not miss your opportunity (and if you are registered, to check your registration to make sure it is still valid). Get registered and encourage everyone you know to register. Here’s where to start: Vote.gov

The thought of this uneducated, hateful human being speaking at the request of my alma mater is vomit-inducing. Take it from a PhD in human genetics, he wasn’t coded this way - Steve Sailer has just chosen to be walking talking excrement

congratulations to reihan salam for his role in getting noted degenerate racist steve sailer a public platform www.theguardian.com/us-news/2024...

I sure did. And here’s what I said.
