Dan Burke and the Royal Treatment headlined an incredible Winterfest concert last night at the Jane Pickens Theatre.

Melo Green and Princess June last night at the Jane Pickens Theatre, two truly amazing bands to see. Stellar local music, or at least still local for now.

A selfie- it took two of us to take it. I held the phone and Michelle pushed the button.

My brother and cousin were both survivors of the fire that night. It was a dark time for our region, and I spent a great deal of time with survivors and the families of the dead during that time. That time humbled me, but I was blessed not to be destroyed by it. Love for those still struggling.

There are only two possibilities. The nightmare continues or the nightmare ends. If fascism wins, do not believe that supporting it saved you. History teaches us that fascism always turns on even its most loyal minions. If fascism loses, we will remember and support all who stood against it...

"Eat just one and the rest will fall in line." No! Luigi gave us the one. They will not fall in line so long as they feel safe. I am not advocating assassinations. It should, however, start to feel unsafe to commit legalized atrocities, or to aid and abet or support that. It should be expensive.

I’m George Takei and I approve of this message.

AP is banned from WH events and all the other legacy journalists walk right in. If this was the 60s, we know who would have been with the Freedom Riders, and who would’ve been writing about them from a safe place. AP stands alone. Sad but true.

Happy Caturday. Also, today is Sakura's Gotcha Day, February 15, 2023. Here is Felix at the shelter getting chosen by this kitten, and here is that kitten perched on the edge of the pellet stove recently, staying warm and visible in case of food.

The Associated Press has been banned from Air Force One and other places over its refusal to kowtow to the stupid renaming of the Gulf of Mexico. AP News is now my default news organization in my task bar.

Happy Library Lover's Day, February 14th. This is a view of pour secret home library. Release the candle wall sconce on the right of the bookshelf and the bookshelf unlatches and swings open to reveal the small library inside filled with antiques and books dating back at least to 1859.

Looking for romance? Our guide to Newport restaurants will help you find it and will help you feed it. Newport loves, Newport lives, Newport laughs, Newport Eats!

The world moves. Nations that stop moving just die off. That's it. Don't invest in alternatives to CFCs? Other nations profit from that tech, not the US. Halt solar and wind? The US falls behind in that vital market. Deny science? Science moves on without the US. The world moves, even as we die.

🚨 14 State Attorneys General have filed a lawsuit which claims Pres. Trump has violated the Appointments Clause by creating a federal department without Congress’s approval and granting Musk broad powers without Senate consent. (NM, AZ, MI, CA, CT, HI, MD, MA, MN, NV, OR, RI, VT, WA)

Miami Dade County public school graduate just 2 years and 2 high schools up the road from me. To say we’re proud is the understatement of the century. She’s the embodiment of all that is still good in this nation.

Happy Valentine's Day, love, Al Capone.

We’re not going to call it the Gulf of America. Some thoughts on the latest episode of “The Jim Acosta Show.”

America has been facing a number of challenges- dangerous wars, gun violence, poverty, failing infrastructure, disease, refugee crises, and inflation. We have been struggling with them in spite of the (imperfect) efforts of the federal government. Now, Trump is actively nurturing our challenges.

Remember that Gitmo exists specifically to allow for indefinite extrajudicial imprisonment and torture methods for which the United States has issued the death penalty when used against American POWs. Now, it is a tent city for a planned 30,000 low-risk refugees, now indefinite inmates.

Yes, I joined this trend. I also switched from Google to DuckDuckGo, since Google has also eliminated Black History Month and Pride Month from its calendar app.

As the fascists block journalists from reporting facts, it's time for journalists to treat the White House like they would treat a terrorist organization. Report the facts. The propaganda briefings do not need to be covered. Don't report propaganda as fact just to have access to the dictator.

It is time for the Democrats to act like a REAL opposition party. If the Trumpublicans are violating the constitution and refusing to obey court orders, the Dems need to enforce the laws another way. If they deny Dems access, we need to take it, not just stand there begging for it.

Funny how the "Oh, I'm just too old to call your child by their preferred pronouns and real name, so I am going to just have to misgender and deadname them forever" crowd has no problem renaming places with racist colonizer names.

After Google's abhorrent choices, I have officially switched. I despise Microsoft, so I skipped Bing and am trying DuckDuckGo. I'll keep everyone posted on how that goes.

February 11, 1907, the steamer Larchmont sinks off the coast of Rhode Island after a collision with the Harry Knowles. Bothe vessels sank. The coal schooner's crew survived, but of the 156 people aboard the Larchmont, only 19 were saved, and 2 of those died of their injuries soon after.

Felix did a fantastic job of getting ready for school today. They're going on a field trip.

Looking back on years performing at the Newport Folk Festival, we are reminded of the joy and power music can bring to a moment. This playlist gathers performances and studio recordings from that time—songs of love, resilience, and change. You can listen here: found.ee/joan-baez-th...

I have that urge to call the White House switchboard and pretend to be Trump locked outside because he forgot his keys. "Someone let me in. Elon took has my keys and I can't find Mel. Ooh look- a big truck! Honk honk! He didn't honk. Oh no! There's a Black guy. Let me in quick!"

Start or threaten a trade war, and businesses start raising prices to insulate against shock if a trade war starts or worsens. Just the threat sparks inflation. Costs rise not just for tariffed items, but for everything- also to insulate against big jumps and increase profits. (1/4)

you guys look at what I’m stitching 🍴🍯

Watch MAGA at the start of today's game. Watch them sit, talk football, wear their red hats through the national anthem as they stuff their faces and drink their swill and wish they could break Kaepernick's knees. Watch nationalists pretend to be patriots, if you find yourself with them today.

Yesterday, I saw a brief video as I was scrolling socials. It was a pickle fountain, but whatever was going on was all in German. Then, people filled glasses from the fountain and I thought, "What are they drinking?" After some research last night, Michelle and I had delicious Dill Pickle Martinis.
