There were a lot of weird results today, per usual for any Saturday in college hoops. But I might need an entire damn 30 for 30 on Iowa State losing by 19 to Kansas State.

Updated rankings for college basketball's NPOY race, which certainly doesn't appear to be as much of a Cooper Flagg runaway situation as we've been told. bleacherreport.com/articles/101...

Seven. More. Weeks.

It was one hell of a day for teams on the bubble. Teams that I had seeded 35th-47th or among the first five out in my bracket earlier this week went a combined 13-1 today, the only loss being Wake Forest vs. Duke. Xavier and BYU also became a good bit more interesting today.

You know, it’s going to be funny if UNC ends up being the first team out, and the selection committee chair - UNC AD Bubba Cunningham - has to do media rounds, talking about decisions he neither agrees with nor was allowed to vote on.

Trying to keep up with all the hoops on a Saturday

Going to try to start posting on here more again. For now, here's a new episode of the Unnamed Bracketology Podcast, devoted entirely to mid-major leagues. www.youtube.com/watch?v=EH9S...

I've neglected to post on here in a while, but here's an updated bracket projection for the 2025 men's NCAA tournament. Spoiler: SEC still looking damn strong. bleacherreport.com/articles/101...

Back on the unnamed bracketology podcast grind with @grahamdoeren.bsky.social discussing the current state of who's looking most likely to dance in three months' time: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ut7_...

Bennett Stirtz baby

Unless Stetson can come back from a 37-point halftime deficit against LSU, it's another perfect night for the SEC, improving to 152-20 overall.

Which sportsbook will be the first to offer this prop bet? GREATER TOTAL: SEC Teams in NCAA tournament ACC Teams missing NCAA tournament Legitimately might be 14 of each.

CHASE (HUNTER) BANK IS OPEN

The only team capable of beating the Florida Gators so far this season is its own school newspaper staff

New week. New bracket. Auburn, Tennessee, Iowa State and Kentucky on the 1 line. Arkansas, Missouri, Nebraska and SMU newly in. Ohio State, LSU, Rhode Island and Loyola Chicago newly out. bleacherreport.com/articles/101...

So when mass shootings of average people and school children occurs, it's all "there's nothing we can do, these things just happen" but when a CEO gets shot, we need a special hotline, new safety protocols, and to lock up housewives over frustrated phone conversations. Got it.

To put these numbers in context, in the 2023-24 season, all teams combined went 426-1396 (.234) against Quad 1, and there were only 23 teams that posted a winning record against Quad 1. (18 if you remove the five mid-majors who went 1-0.) For an entire league to be sitting at .590 is insanity.

Records this season in Quad 1 games, by major conference: ACC: 11-43 (.204 winning %) Big Ten: 16-38 (.296) Big 12: 12-27 (.308) Big East: 8-17 (.320) SEC: 23-16 (.590)

Finishing up my bracket projection for this week and we're now up to 13 SEC teams in, plus two more among my first four out. Madness.

Continental US UConn remains undefeated

Was just thinking this day has felt a lot like the first Thursday of the NCAA tournament.

Liam McNeeley is a great player, but he also probably leads the nation in fouls committed on offensive rebound attempts.

High-class gesture by Benetti, Jackson and the Fox crew, shouting out Dick Vitale's cancer free diagnosis. "He transcends networks."

Gainey called gamey

You know how people put rubber ducks on Jeeps? I've been trying to come up with what we can start putting on those stupid Cybertrucks. And I think I've got it. Extra small condoms.

Arizona will need to go 11-9 in Big 12 play just to have like a 40% chance of dancing. Based on what they’ve shown thus far, good luck with that.

If it was a specific player who sparked that point of emphasis, it was definitely Marcus Smart. But they need to bring it back. It's getting irritatingly comical to watch a guy hit the deck before the contact even comes.

I miss the days when we made a concentrated effort to get flopping out of college basketball. It seems to be worse than ever now, and the refs keep buying it.

Have either Texas A&M or Purdue scored in half an hour?

Memphis winning at Clemson may well end up being the most important result of the day, given the complete lack of opportunities Memphis will have on its plate after nonconference play ends.

12 incredible hours of basketball on tap for today, and Memphis-Clemson bringing all of the heat out of the gates.

Great point. I'm 15 years out of college and 12 years away from potentially sending one to college, so I am at a peak "forgets that winter break is a thing" point in my life.

Of the 21 best games today according to KenPom Thrill Score, 13 are not true on-campus games. Ridiculous.

Fox News talking about Luigi Mangione, but make the footage Kyle Rittenhouse

Unless I miscounted, D1 teams are 363-2 against non-D1 teams this season, the lone losses coming from Oral Roberts vs. Rogers State and Alcorn State vs. Xavier LA. I ASSUME the Dons will win, but it'd be quite the outcome if they don't.

What is a Stanislaus State and why is San Francisco tied with it at halftime?

NFL fans: Watching games from the All-22 angle is kind of awesome. Netflix: 22 angles? We're on it.

Oh joy, we're talking about expanding the NCAA tournament again. I think their plan is to float this unwelcome notion every 2-4 months until we reach the point of asking them to f'ing do it already just to be done with the constant conversation about it.

You think maybe Johnell Davis saw that play design once or twice in the past 4 years with Dusty May as his coach?

Michigan-Arkansas has been a wildly entertaining game. Would be great if someone could let Jay Bilas know that.

Maybe Cleveland ends up sending money in the deal, but it’s hilarious that the breakdown of Gimenez’s 7-year, $106M deal might be: Guardians - 2 years, $12M Blue Jays - 5 years, $94M

I should probably be blown away by this much NIL, but I also just yesterday wrote an article about players who could one day eclipse Juan Soto's $765M contract, which makes $5M for "a generational-type scorer" feel low haha

New projection for the men's 2025 NCAA tournament. If you still think it's too early for bracketology, I guess check back in March? bleacherreport.com/articles/101...
