Last bit of space for Mega Drive games. I must choose wisely.

Oh no, more dead ZX Spectrums. This batch had a legit Kempston joystick interface, which I had never seen in person before.

Squirrels have dug up all my strawberry plants. Curse those tree monsters.

A "totally legit" way of playing Super Mario World.

Sending retro computing items via the post only wrapped in a plastic bag should be illegal

I finally got B.A. his van! (I will also get a bonus divorce if my wife finds out)

A nice big delivery from Retroleum to this weekend's ZX repair session. Nice!

It's now definitely time to seriously consider thinning out my retro system collection.

One of the children managed to destroy my iPad Pro whilst my back was turned. It lasted almost 10 years, which is quite impressive. Not sure I'll replace it though, I can only imagine what kind of AI shit hellscape the modern ones are.

Another very dirty ZX Spectrum arrived today. The diagnostic cartridge is going to get a workout this weekend.

I've been trying my best not to eat overprocessed shite, but there is something enjoyable about eating a sausage roll whilst debugging annoying audio code.

Two of my favourite books. I think I got them both from Maplin in the very early 90s. At least one of them taught me some useful things.

Spectrum repair time

That was a fun Mega Drive themed lunch break. I need to play it more often.

This is a really interesting read about the development of a cool game. Between late night games of Balatro, the awesome @arzettegame.bsky.social and the various @digitaleclipse.bsky.social Gold Series games I've just about kept my sanity when various things have kept me awake most of the night.

A terrible night's sleep gave me an idea on how to brute force debugging an issue I couldn't reliably reproduce on one specific console. If nothing else it already feels like a productive day.

It's always nice to buy a 40 year old computer from eBay and have it delivered wrapped in nothing but paper and a bin bag so it arrives even more smashed up than the delivery person's van.

Another ZX Spectrum arrived today. Will need some work I suspect as it's got a well worn look about it.

It's not the world's worst lot of weekend cartridge pickups (for the money)

Time to go and visit @bristolvge.bsky.social to see what interesting things there are

It's not even 9am and it's already shaping up to be a shit day. Time to start work as that will at least put a positive spin on things.

ZX Spectrum repair logic has started to arrive. Exciting times.

My 3 year old just ran in and said batman doesn't wear pants and then did a wee on the floor. I look forward to nursery re-opening next week.

<edit> <f5> *crash*, <edit> <f5> *crash*, etc

I need to locate a new wired Xbox 360 controller as mine is starting to malfunction, and I use it on almost every (current) platform. All other controllers are inferior for multi-platform development.

I've been forced to play My Friend Peppa Pig on Xbox for most of the evening as my 3 year old son said he didn't want to watch me play Forza Horizon 5. I will cancel my Xbox live subscription in the morning.

It's probably time to start downsizing some of my retro hardware collection to focus it on the systems I enjoy the most.

I usually buy unboxed Megadrive cartridges as they are cheaper and easier to store but once in a while I'll buy a boxed Japanese one, like this as I like the artwork. Bought online, sold as complete in box with a hole in the manual. Didn't mention the hacksawed off cartridge sides. Sigh.

That's a pretty impressive line-up. I guess the chance of getting tickets is nil.

I have two ill young children and a massive sleep deficit. Perfect time to trawl eBay, nothing can go wrong.

Emulating old Micros is just not the same as using real hardware. I just wish they took up less space.

Spectrum time

Over £1500 now. Still 0% of the way to the target

Now my smallest children are old enough to not ruin my collection, I'm glad to say I have all my records out of storage and finally hooked the deck up. I will start with this one.

I acquired one of @herring1967.bsky.social's balls, and it's signed by my two favourite Mes.

I don't think I've ever seen an Atari ST with more than 512k of RAM in person.

Trying to author a bluray disc is way too complicated. I regret this rabbit hole.
