turns out you can win super-super-supermajorities of young men and you don't even have to say slurs, resent women, or promote crypto

How dare the Department of Defense lie about its own operation to undermine OUR BELOVED PRESIDENT!

Well, this is awful. How long until academics are prohibited from using the Archives because they're researching a subject the administration disapproves of?

The "last window of opportunity" test for self-defense proposed by some is not the law. A strict version of it might make a viable proposal for law development by States. But the permissive version currently on offer is a recipe for disaster. The African Union Common Position:

So the "last window of opportunity"... to weaken Iran, not to defend Israel from an armed attack that otherwise could not be defended.

Curiosity side note: Given Trumps attacks and hostilities against the ICC, I wonder if he is aware that the US has a Memorandum of Understanding with the Joint investigation Team (JiT) into alleged core international crimes committed in Ukraine which also includes the participation of the ICC.

New: my very long post @opiniojuris.bsky.social explaining why the "last window of opportunity" test for self-defence, used by both the #US and #Israel to justify attacking #Iran, is not the law -- and shouldn't be. opiniojuris.org/2025/06/24/t...

"You know, it really dampens protests if you kill a few." -- Richard Nixon in 1970. a few days after the murder of four students at Kent State.

Who's going to tell him?

I don't understand the kerfuffle. Why would an originalist federal judge *not* give an award to a student who wrote a racist and white supremacist essay paper for his class? The paper is the perfect distillation of everything originalism stands for. www.nytimes.com/2025/06/21/u...

By the way, the”Iran and Israel are involved in an ongoing armed conflict”-argument has been rejected by Israeli international law heavyweight Yoram Dinstein back in 2011. I wonder what he would say now tho (he passed away last year).

In case you're wondering, Cardiff's VC is given £290K and free housing to destroy the university.

Very interesting @satariano.bsky.social and @jeannasmialek.bsky.social article in the @nytimes.com on how US sanctions affect the #ICC's tech infrastructure. Includes a quote from the excellent @saraedill.bsky.social. www.nytimes.com/2025/06/20/t...

A friendly reminder: because Israel's attacks on Iran are not self-defence, the US attacking Iran would not be collective self-defence. (Nor would it be individual self-defence, except for those whose ad bellum calculus is "bad guys" + "secrecy" = "last window of opportunity.")

this kind of attack, without more details, is entirely disconnected from any kind of self-defense claim, evidence of a motive that’s illegal under the UN Charter.

I blame Biden.

Failed attempts to use "last window of opportunity" to justify Israel's attack on Iran as self-defence have a silver lining: proponents are no longer pretending the test has anything to do with imminence. It is intended to rationalise preventive self-defence, pure and simple.

Was so honoured and pleased to give two keynotes yesterday at the launch of this incredibly important initiative. And the workshop was excellent. commonwealth.sas.ac.uk/news-events/...

The PTC issued an important decision today concerning prosecutorial discretion. The decision involves an attempt by @amnesty.org to force the OTP to open a formal proprio motu investigation in #Nigeria. By majority, the PTC held it did not have the authority to issue such an order.

Not so much, I guess.

It's hysterical that they're playing one of the great antiwar songs of the Vietnam era.

Iran has been just a few months away from a nuclear weapon for the past three decades.

So glad there are real doctors out there correcting RFK Jr's -- completely deliberate -- lies about #vaccines.

Yeah, preventing more diseases is definitely a bad thing.

A big shout-out to the trolls who spend all day reading tweets by international lawyers just so they can respond by writing "international law is not real law." Your efforts are appreciated!

A quick primer on the most common self-defence terminology, because states and scholars tend to be all over the place. "Pre-emptive" self-defence is a response to an imminent armed attack. "Preventive" self-defence is a response to an armed attack that is not even imminent.

Let's be clear: Israel's attack on Iran is not simply a violation of the UN Charter. It is a manifest violation of it. Few acts are more unequivocally illegal than preventive (non-imminent) self-defence. So Israel's attack is both unlawful and criminal -- the crime of aggression.

I want to move to New York just so I can vote for this guy.

Contingency plans for a completely illegal use of force against a NATO ally.

Trump Card is NOT coming unless there’s a statute to back it up. Or this is some side hustle/grift in which you get “Trump” “citizenship” and has nothing to do with the real thing.

OMG OMG OMG THIS IS SO AMAZING I CAN DIE HAPPY ONCE I SEE IT.
