If your best argument against doing something is polling, then you have no argument.

The story of Merthyr is as good as anything I've ever been involved with, and I hope they revel in every minute of it. Still fan owned, and bloody fantastic. www.merthyrtownfc.co.uk

Politics-media nexus.

Day 145. The evening protest after quite a day. "The enemy of his own nation won't go unpunished," "Georgia rise up, revolt!" #GeorgiaProtests 📷 David Chkheidze

Close-up view of a regime policeman viciously snatching a protester out of the crowd, and pushing him into the car. Just watch. #GeorgiaProtests

One other thing worth pointing out, is that a frustrating as it gets, Gillingham, according to the commentator today, have the biggest budget in the division and are on their third manager this season. Mad.

The biggest problem we've got as far as I can see is that we don't have Reeves, Hippolyte or Browne. We've got a defence and some attackers, and nothing in-between. There's nothing joining the two ends of the pitch up.

Pants. Notts County, Bradford and the others screwing up again though. And maybe, just maybe, we'll get a couple of big players back for the last two matches. Heaven knows we need them. Otherwise it's two more games without a goal #afcw

We've barely attacked since we conceded the goal. Instead, our attackers are now defending. #afcw

They're you go. That's what happens when all you can do is to defend. Not good enough. #afcw

I honestly struggle to see where we're going to get any goals from, and now we're playing rope-a-dope again, but without being able to provide the knockout punch. It's just getting a bit tiresome. #afcw

A regime policeman pulling the hair of a female protester. He must have drunk a traditional toast or two for females yesterday at his Easter feast. #GeorgiaProtests 📷 Protest 24

A third person has apparently been detained as the protesters marched to the Freedom Square. #GeorgiaProtests

I agree with Lisa Nandy that we need to restore “people’s connection with the arts and culture in every region of the country”. It can help regenerate the ‘left behind’ areas of the country. We need a ‘Creative Revolution’ to match the ‘Industrial Revolution’. www.theguardian.com/culture/2025...

Going through Reform candidates for the locals and a lot of them sound like Downton Abbey characters. In Wiltshire I've found an Aurelia Margaret Amherst Stephenson and a Violette Ruth Francina Simpson.

A female chain has blocked the road, and the police is discussing what to do. “Go home,” “until the end,” and various other protest chants are heard as the buses turn away in the background. This happens in response to arbitrary Easter detentions yesterday. #GeorgiaProtests

Women’s chain blocked the Rustaveli Avenue to protest Easter detentions and the Russian regime in general. The regime police are still confused about what to do. #GeorgiaProtests

JD Vance does to the Pontiff what Truss did to HRH

Rest in peace. www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/cr...

I've just found a picture I took in 2015, of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and a bevy of other SCOTUS and senior UK judges visiting Runnymede on the 800th anniversary of Magna Carta. It was part of a fascinating week-long exchange of expertise. Seems like a different world.

Impossible to overstate how resigned the secretary of defense in any other administration in history would be at this point

what a brilliant and definitely useful technology

i don't actually want this because of all the people who'd die but from a purely comedic standpoint it would rule if we went to war with this guy as SecDef

Bert Jenrick is the politician of the future: no consistency, any methods, will say absolutely anything because he knows that in the modern information environment he will get away with it.

“Unlike the chat in which The Atlantic was mistakenly included, the newly revealed one was created by Mr. Hegseth. It included his wife and about a dozen other people from his personal and professional inner circle…”

For anyone still wondering whether Trump is playing 4-D chess with us all. He is to trade economics what RFK is to epidemiology.

Day 144. It’s Easter. Yet we are still here on Rustaveli because we can’t afford otherwise, we must persist, and find ways to success in persistence. I’m here almost every day, and I’ve recently begun bringing books, studies, or work with me routinely, like many others. 1/

The end of a non-league football season wouldn’t be the end of a non-league football season without some sort of points-deduction related shenanigans. On one of the most consequential administrative glitches of the season and its effect of Jersey Bulls. unexpecteddelirium.substack.com/p/bullsed-up

"For those attracted to Farageism, it is not, and never has been, about its credibility as a programme for government. He provides a spittoon for the angry voter to gob their fury into." @andrewrawnsley.bsky.social

Off to Shrewsbury this morning, where ten years of unbroken League One service will now be coming to an end. Please share etc :-) unexpecteddelirium.substack.com/p/farewell-s...

My objection to this is twofold: 1) It is stupid to do seat-by-seat models about an election that will occur after the end of Trump's second term. 2) If pollsters going to spend money on things, why not, e.g. try & get a better sample of young men of all kinds or ethnic minorities of all ages?

Happy Easter! I'm off to sing a Mozart mass, the Hallelujah Chorus and this Easter gem by Vaughan Williams: "Rise Heart; the Lord is Risen". Beautifully sung here by Roderick Williams. www.youtube.com/watch?v=kn-T...

Staple this to RFK Jr’s forehead.

The Rustaveli public will meet Easter, the most major holiday in Georgia, on Rustaveli, at the Kashveti Church. This is the second protest Easter in a row. Really hope we won’t have to do it in 2026 again. It seems like the President will be there too together with her family.

This.

A short article of mine on civil-military relations and democratic backsliding had been accepted for publication in the journal "Connections". Then I received an email that the editors can't publish the paper unless I "remove the case study/examples of the United States" (1/x) #CivMilSky

The second protest Easter in a row. Easter 2025 in Georgia - on Rustaveli Avenue, of course. Truth and freedom must prevail. #GeorgiaProtests 📷 Tony Levi’s

Unthinkable just 10 years ago: Almost 3/4 of the EU’s electricity in 2024 was from renewable energy sources and nuclear. Gas and coal electricity generation is at record low levels.

Compare and contrast the Oval Office under Reagan - understated, almost austere - with Trump's dictator-bling. From this intriguing thread by @bendorgrosvenor.bsky.social.

Worth noting here that the British PM who has so far accomplished an actual reset with the EU was errrrrrrrr Rishi Sunak.

An absolute must-read from @stevevladeck.bsky.social this morning: “Just before 1:00 a.m., the justices (aggressively) stepped back into the Alien Enemy Act litigation—in a decision suggesting that a majority understands that these are no longer normal circumstances.”

Have a look at this.

Turns out that boasting you can end a war in 24 hours, yelling at the country that's been invaded, trying to loot its minerals and sucking up to the country that invaded its neighbour doesn't automatically bring a lasting peace. Who would have thought it? www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Is Chelsea Women’s £200m valuation: a) an obvious PSR fiddle? b) a punchy but justifiable price for the best team, with a great brand/address, in a fast-emerging league/sector? c) maybe both? 🔗 www.nytimes.com/athletic/628...

Final game of the season in the @nwcfl.bsky.social today, and two teams are still in with a shout of winning the league — both having already passed the 100-point mark!

I think this is at least a medium term phenomenon which was quite apparent in the latter part of the Johnson regime which did not like (in no particular order) Remain voters, anyone in public services, business in general, Europeans etc etc.
