Ongoing billing problems with @nytimes.com. I can't get them to stop billing my credit card, for a subscription that I cancelled long ago. Today I called customer service and they hung up on me twice. Is anyone else having this issue? This is so terribly frustrating.

making custom a sensing soil rod mechanism for checking out soil resistance. #soilComposition #sensors #soundscapes

This week's foray Ableton was figuring out the Simpler & Sampler, which let you conveniently turn samples into instruments. After playing with Ableton's built-in instruments, I now feel like I have a new way to express my data-sonifications. #sensors #soundscapes kildall.com/archives/7624

Dashboard for checking out the logged data from 16 different microbial samples. PB 1-4 were ones that were incubated and active for 10 months, the others are new ones, so no significant data yet. #adafruitio #esp32 #electrodes

Sensors for microbial samples. Logging data, solar-powered and they will some day make music.

As part of my ongoing Sensors and Soundscapes research and art projects, I've set up weekly explorations with Ableton, which is software that does the final sound synthesis nowadays. Week 1 is the Drum Kit kildall.com/archives/7610 Still so much to learn!

Tfw someone asks you to "collaborate" on their art project, with their fully-developed idea, when they are really just looking for someone to do the tech for them. #freelabor

Morning queries into the history of the 808 drum kit synthesizer yielded this gem on the history of drumming/drum kits. Starts at around the 1840s flypaper.soundfly.com/discover/a-b...

Curious about cicadas in New Zealand, and the sounds they make? Well, there is a link for that tepapa.govt.nz/discover-col...

https://buff.ly/4ffBwfM If scientists want to save humanity from a potential 'city killer' asteroid, we need years of warning, not a handful of hours. According to Dr Franck Marchis, the solution is to enlist amateur astronomers to fill in the gaps left behind by the professionals. πŸ§ͺ πŸ”

Geothermal landscape at Rotorua (NZ). Feeling inspired by the smell of hydrogen sulfide.

On December 4th, I moved my 3 Purple Bacteria samples from a south-facing window (lots of sunlight) to an east-facing one (neighbors house, ambient light). These samples produce electricity and I'm checking different possibilities for what influences their fluctuations. Direct sunlight? #sciComm

Tfw auto-correct asks if "Is cannibalism is legal in New Zealand" instead of "Is cannibis..."

Journey to New Zealand. The first bird call I did an ID on via Merlin was the House Sparrow. Always impressed by those animals that adapt to cities: rats, pigeons, ants, and more

of course

I see a lot of art + tech works that are really compelling conceptually. And, when I look more deeply at them, I know they don't actually work as advertised. I don't say anything, b/c I don't want to be *that* person. But still...

Underwater recordings are fascinating. Now I'm following scientists on my @soundcloud.bsky.social account with a separate sound cloud, for my DJ experiments.

Proud of the work that my students have done at University of San Francisco in the Information Visualization class, as we wrap up. I can't post their visualizations this semester, but #wow the kids are alright. and @ericrodenbeck.bsky.social thx for inspirations! #dataViz #mapping

I just looked at my #GitHub account and saw that I have 149 repositories (!). Some are private from various client projects. Many are useless, or just backup systems. Some are really helpful. How do others manage theirs with #openHardware and #openSource ideals?

3D printed brain by @worksintheory.bsky.social with steel + pla filament and some treatment with salt water. Always fun to see innovations on the standard pla 3d printing look

Looking forward to reading about the detailed work in this paper

Custom board that uses a Spectral Triad Spectroscopy Sensor from @sparkfun.bsky.social w/ESP32. Wireless data-streaming using #osc #adafruitIO New version of my Infrared Reflections". Transmits readings from visible, IR and UV light. Momentary buttons for LED display with sensor. #openHardware

well, this is yet another creative thing on today's internet. outside of our perception is a whole realm of amazing possibilities, reminds me of my time working at @exploratorium.bsky.social

Feeling science-inspired, especially after making connections on @bsky.app Here's a goodie. Pure sulfur, brimstone, on Mars. Revealing a richer geographical landscape than we thought. www.sciencealert.com/curiosity-cr... #science #rocks #geology #mars #Curiosity

Welcoming @leeborg.bsky.social to the Interactive Electronics Starter Pack: bsky.app/starter-pack... I met Lee through @dinalab.bsky.social and Lee is super-involved with #openHardware, art, tech + education and sooo much more. Website is here leecyb.org Welcome @leeborg.bsky.social

Enjoying these various Starter Packs quite a bit. Art and Culture, curated by @aaronjackarts.bsky.social has a collection of artists, writers and other culture-makers on it. bsky.app/starter-pack...

Electrical output from Purple Bacteria samples. Seem to correspond to circadian rhythms. Peaks just after sunset and the troughs a couple hours after sunrise (though it varies). Raw sensor readings. During the intense rainstorm a couple days ago, the peak dropped significantly. #SciComm

Looking at that Salmon data point, I'm thinking that a fish on a bicycle would be peak efficiency.

A worthwhile starter pack for bio-inspired artists such as myself

It sure feels good to end a bad relationship
