"History will remember this day— when an American President and Vice President abandoned all we stand for."

Goodwin is a disgusting apologist for tyrants.

Anyone associated with these newspapers really have to have a chat with their paymasters

A reminder that it's not a "shouting match" when only one side is doing any shouting.

10 Downing Street: “The Prime Minister has tonight spoken to both President Trump and President Zelensky. “He retains unwavering support for Ukraine, and is doing all he can to find a path forward to a lasting peace based on sovereignty and security for Ukraine…

Two weeks ago, Vance lectured Europe for supposedly not tolerating free speech. Today he tried to bully Zelenskyy for not saying exactly what Trump wanted. A grifter and a coward.

JD Vance: "Peace can only be arrived at with diplomacy." Proceeds to cause huge diplomatic incident live on air.

The full exchange between Trump, Zelenskiy and Vance is like nothing I've ever seen before. For that to happen at all is shocking. For it to happen in front of the cameras leaves every diplomatic norm in shreds. Starmer's meeting yesterday might as well have come from another century

C4’s Lindsey Hilsum is great: proper, no punches pulled analysis. “There is no peace process.” “The man who will be happiest is Vladimir Putin.” “What it looks like is Zelenskyy was lured into a trap.”

That man is not welcome in this country. America should be utterly ashamed.

Never drink in a flat-roofed pub

The world is far from normal these days, but I never thought that we’d reach a point where a key international summit’s success would be down to a President of the USA being invited for a meeting in Cumnock.

#RIP Gene Hackman 📷 Brian Hamill, 1974 As Harry Caul in Francis Ford Coppola's The Conversation. "The way he looks & carries himself, his accent & affect, give him a quality that sets directors spinning; Gene Hackman is uncommonly common, utterly representative." - Michael Norman

You simply cannot throw jelly pieces out of a 20 storey flat! 700 hundred hungry children will testify to that!!!

This is a fascinating, emotional and insightful documentary series made by a brilliant Director and production team. Well worth a watch. #thehuntforpetertobin youtube.com/shorts/4z0R9...

I took this picture of the TV screen four years ago tonight, February 2020.

😞 Just doomscrolled again. Here - have some Bone, by Jeff Smith.

Last week people were half-jokingly speculating about whether Kemi Badenoch, in order to own the libs, might lurch into claiming she wasn’t really British, and it feels like Suella Braverman spotted an opportunity to make her mark.

Sigh

im probably just being optimistic but it feels more and more like this strategy of rather indiscriminately and smugly firing a shitload of Americans who serve their country and don’t do political jobs will probably just start pissing off ppl who don’t pay attention to politics.

No-one who has, or has ever had any input into UK foreign, defence or security policy believes or has ever believed this. Kemi Badenoch can't stop hallucinating straw men, surrendering to foreign lawyers, presumably while taking the knee.

Madam, I read Jilly Cooper. I know Jilly Cooper. Jilly Cooper is a friend of mine. Madam, you're no Jilly Cooper.

A cracking and criminally overlooked album.

Fine but still not enough and not fast enough. Fund it (in part) by ending the pensions triple lock.

Tim with a classic variation on the “Isn’t it about time we admitted…?” headline, the answer to which is always ‘No’.

I genuinely cannot see what everyone else seems to see in Conclave. I genuinely thought it was thin and ridiculous. I reckon it’s going to be one of those films that wins lots of awards, then rarely rewatched and pretty much forgotten. Like The English Patient or Three Billboards or American Beauty.

I think this tallies with how Trump/Musk's slide into Full Nazism has exposed a lot of right-leaning journalists and commentators whose position is actually, "I don't mind a bit of Fascism, as a treat, but I mean come on." and are now trying to row backwards against a current they helped create

I still chuckle at the time he posted this picture like he was on a yacht at St Tropez and not the Gravesend to Tilbury car ferry.

It really is heart breaking to see how awful Glasgow looks these days. It has not helped my mood at all.

Going into Glasgow city centre

Repost with the first album you bought with your own money.

Thank you Bill Fay for writing this anthem for the anxious #rip open.spotify.com/track/4o09sS...

First Buses really have outdid themselves in curating a collection of some of the grumpiest old sods the world has ever seen and letting them have the opportunity to drive around Glasgow. Well done First Buses.

Sad to hear that Bill Fay has passed. His first two albums are dark and wonderful youtu.be/ofbe697xrOw?...

The process of selecting a new Pope.

The mainstreaming of white ethnonationalism (aka racism) in the UK was, of course, wholly unrelated to the racist bilge Fraser Nelson published in the Spectator during his 15 years as editor.

local former magazine editor discovers that.....actions?........have consequences?

Now listening

It is disgusting. Not only must Ukraine accept this blackmail, it must do so while also accepting the loss of 20% of its territory. That’s not ‘peace’ it is extortion.

think what grates most about Fraser Nelson's "a dramatic shift? of MY Overton window?" shtick is that those of us who kept talking about the Spectator's dangerous slide to the right were treated as hysterical, not able to see the humour in shock jocks, etc etc, when we were just clearly right!

I'm not having Fraser Nelson playing dumb on the rise of racism on the right after years spent printing Murray, Liddle, Taki and Shriver. I literally had a DM row with him years ago where I said this would happen.
