We are now over 20,000 strong. I need every proud and determined Canadian to reach out to their family, friends, colleagues to sign the pledge for Canada. Each one reach one. Each one teach one. Donald will not break us. True. North. Strong. Free #strongasfuck actionnetwork.org/petitions/pl...

Hey - @gmarchildon.bsky.social, did you see the news about a town in BC hiring a family physician? Does it sound to you like the start of things about 100 years ago in Canada? globalnews.ca/news/1092622....

This is unsurprising but not great news. It will have (and likely already has had) an impact on health and more specifically health equity.

As usual, @ritamc.bsky.social is on point. The whole thread is recommended.

Today, on the International Day for Persons with Disabilities, I am beyond proud that the Canadian Institutes for Health Research have released their Anti-Ableism Action Plan, entitled "From Intention to Impact". 1/3 cihr-irsc.gc.ca/e/54121.html...

This is interesting, with details to debate. The bigger picture is that health care reform is hard. There are large, organized interests. The power dynamics are real. How can the public, the ultimate owners of health systems, function as countervailing power? montrealgazette.com/news/quebec/...

This is a really interesting paper by @theaveragejoe.org We've always needed STEAM vs. STEM, and this case study clearly lays out why. Of course, you have to understand that "Arts" includes history, economics, political science and philosophy / ethics, not just dancing and painting.

The Journal of Cybersecurity Education, Research & Practice, a peer-reviewed academic journal, just published my article on integrating humanities into cybersecurity education. #cybersecurity #education #humanities #infosec digitalcommons.kennesaw.edu/jcerp/vol202...

Great point, @ivacheung.com. The illustration for this story is... interesting...

Every time there's a gender disparity in a certain behaviour, the framing is ALWAYS "women should be more like men" and NEVER "men should consider doing what women do." Everything from saying "just" to asking "Does that make sense?" to whatever this shit is.

Data-driven advocacy is a process: engage stakeholders, map data landscapes, tackle gaps in quality and access, and integrate diverse sources using FAIR principles. This journey transforms raw data into actionable insights, improving #research, care, and #equity. #PublicHealth #AdvocacyInAction

And in 2024, there is still no fluoridation in Metro Vancouver water. (I did appreciate the small bit of Tom Lehrer in the CBC clip from the vault.)

Yes, Yes, and Yes.

I can't say I was expecting this today! Congrats to Dr. Paul Hรฉbert on this new role on this. And thank you to Dr. Tammy Clifford for your leadership while this search was underway.

The Council of Europe released a "Convention on Artificial Intelligence and Human Rights, Democracy and the Rule of Law" (www.coe.int/en/web/conve...). This acknowledges that AI can have positive and negative effects and at least starts to talk about redress. Worth a read, and I'd love comments.

The lack of real structural reform in health care is definitely a long-standing issue.
