Happy #WorldBookDay! 🎉📚 Reading changes lives and developing a lifelong love of reading and writing is so important. Literacy isn't just a skill, it's the key to a child's future.

Huge congratulations to Eddie on his election as General Secretary of @rmtunion.bsky.social. Eddie will be a tireless champion for workers’ rights. His leadership will be crucial in standing up for members & protecting their interests ✊🏽

Last night, I hosted a powerful event in Parliament marking 50 years since the Birmingham Six - a miscarriage of justice that still echoes today. We honoured Paddy Hill & reflected on a system that keeps failing many. History is repeating itself & we must keep fighting for truth.

Last night, we held our second evidence session of the Westminster Commission on Joint Enterprise. A powerful discussion on racial injustices, the causes of disproportionality in joint enterprise cases, and how we can drive reform to prevent these disparities in the future.

Positive to see that early stage feedback has been listened to, but more needs to be done to address people's concerns. Residents & businesses deserve solutions that work for everyone. www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpo...

📢 REMINDER! The Westminster Commission on Joint Enterprise is calling for written evidence on the law & practice of joint enterprise. This is a chance for academics, legal experts, campaigners & those affected by JE to have their voices heard. Submit your evidence by May 1st 2025.

This year marks 40 years since the Swann Report exposed systemic discrimination in education - yet so many of its warnings remain ignored. I've tabled this EDM calling for a public inquiry into the misclassification of Black children as "educationally subnormal".

Ramadan Mubarak to all celebrating across Liverpool and beyond. May this blessed time bring peace, happiness, and prosperity to you, your family, and friends 🌙✨

Visited Blackstock Market today to discuss council-imposed parking restrictions with Paul Blair. It’s clear these changes will affect trade & livelihoods, so I’m meeting with businesses next week. I want to hear your concerns - get in touch & let me know how this is impacting you.

I joined the POA podcast to discuss their prison maintenance campaign. With our prison conditions deteriorating, the government must deliver on its promise of the “biggest wave of insourcing in a generation”. #BringItBackInHouse youtu.be/y8KC_qeGSrg?...

"With the state of British prisons literally crumbling year after year, the argument for lifting the strike ban has never been stronger." Read my latest Comment Central article on the crisis in our prisons: commentcentral.co.uk/the-crisis-i...

Great to meet Varsha Gandikota-Nellutla & Guillaume Long to discuss the vital work of The Hague Group alongside parliamentary colleagues yesterday. The Hague Group is actively defending international law, working to uphold and enforce the rulings of the ICJ and ICC.

Launch of @amnestyuk.bsky.social’s new report, Automated Racism, exposes how police use of technology to ‘predict crime’ means thousands are being racially profiled, purely based on: - Skin colour - Where they live - Socio-economic background This is automated racism and it needs banning.

Today, we remember the 72 people who lost their lives in the Grenfell Tower tragedy. I welcome the news that the government is acting on all of the Inquiry’s findings. This must be used as a watershed moment for long-lasting, systematic change. Justice delayed is justice denied.

The two-child cap is cruel & unfair. Charities & experts all agree - scrapping it would be the most cost-effective way to cut child poverty. Real change requires policies that lift children out of poverty, not ones that entrench hardship. www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/poli...

I have submitted this EDM in full solidarity with striking @neunion.bsky.social members at LIPA Sixth Form. Staff’s concerns have been consistently ignored & they have been left no choice but to take strike action. I am calling on the MAT to immediately engage in meaningful negotiations.

📢 Energy bills up 6.4% in April - pushing the average household bill to £1,849 ⚡ Costs now 77% higher than 2020/21 💰 Energy giants have pocketed £483bn in profits since 2020 The energy system is broken & vulnerable people desperately need our support. www.theguardian.com/money/2025/f...

We want hungry minds, not hungry bellies! Great to see St. Vincent de Paul School selected as the only school in my constituency for Labour’s free breakfast clubs. Every child in Liverpool Riverside deserves the very best start – we must go further & provide free school meals for all children.

Applications for the Kelloggs Breakfast Club Grants are now open. I’m encouraging all schools who need the support to apply here: forevermanchester.com/fund/kellogg...

🎭 On the 60th anniversary of the first-ever arts White Paper, we’re investing in the arts, heritage, & culture with over £100m of new funding. 🎨 Creativity enriches our communities - we’re committed to inspiring & supporting cultural growth for all.

I've co-ordinated a cross-party letter urging the PM to clarify his comments on closing a ‘loophole’ in the Ukraine Family Scheme that allowed a Palestinian family to stay in the UK. Basic humanity shouldn’t be selective - if we help some fleeing war, why not families from Gaza?

Great news for NML as £10m of funding for the redevelopment of the International Slavery Museum & Maritime Museum has been confirmed. Investment in culture is investment in people - this funding will help preserve & share Liverpool's rich history. www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpo...

Liverpool Women’s Hospital is under threat. I’ve written to the Health Secretary demanding a meeting to discuss its future. With £28m recently invested & world-class care provided, moving services makes no sense. Families across Liverpool deserve better. Let’s fight for our hospital.

It’s National HIV Testing Week. It only takes a few minutes to order a free test kit – simple, and you can do it all at home. Get your FREE test now: startswithme.org.uk #ITEST #HIVTestingWeek

It was a pleasure to host @kimjohnsonmp.bsky.social in Liverpool earlier this month and discuss our current work and plans for the future: news.liverpool.ac.uk/2025/02/13/r...

Last night, we held our first evidence session of the Westminster Commission on Joint Enterprise. From those with lived experience to academics to CPS representatives, our panel of witnesses agreed on the urgent need for greater clarity on definitions of joint enterprise law.

Proud to be on the @pcsunion.bsky.social picket line with G4S strikers outside the Cabinet Office this morning. A very lively picket line keeping everyone energised! We were promised the ‘biggest wave of insourcing in a generation’ – it's time for the government to deliver on that promise.

Great to host Liverpool Lighthouse in Parliament for an important event on childbirth in the asylum system. Alongside several organisations from Liverpool, we highlighted the fight for better perinatal care for the most marginalised. I’m proud to support this vital work. (1/2)

It’s #HeartUnions Week 2025! ❤️ Being in a union gave me a voice at work – now I use mine in Parliament to fight for workers' rights. Our Employment Rights Bill will help deliver: ✅ Better pay ✅ Stronger rights ✅ Stronger voices ✊ #JoinAUnion today: www.tuc.org.uk/join-a-union

Visited Everton Job Centre today to meet staff & hear about the challenges in accessing work & support. Learned about outreach with care leavers, self-employment support & Flexible Support Fund. Thanks to Angela & Vicky for organising & to Sarah & Irene from PCS for joining me.

On the picket line at LIPA Sixth Form College this morning for day 21 of strike action. It's time for the MAT to sign a TURA and start meaningful negotiations with staff. Full solidarity with workers fighting for fair working conditions for all employees ✊ @liverpoolneu.bsky.social

Let's call this what it really is: ethnic cleansing. Palestinians deserve equal rights, and our media must speak the truth. www.theguardian.com/world/2025/f...

The Westminster Commission on Joint Enterprise is calling for written evidence to assess the law & practice of joint enterprise. This is a chance for academics, legal experts, campaigners, and those affected by the injustice of JE to have their voices heard. Submit your evidence by May 1st 2025.

am pleased to share my support for Place2Be's #ChildrensMentalHealthWeek. This year's theme "Know Yourself, Grow Yourself" helps young people to understand their emotions and build resilience. You can find out more & get involved here 👇 www.childrensmentalhealthweek.org.uk

Delighted to meet Magda, one of Liverpool’s own Ambassadors for the @foodfoundation.bsky.social. New #BrokenPlate report exposes a troubling reality – too many people in the UK lack the financial means to access decent food. We need swift action to reshape & improve our food system.

By 2029, child poverty in Scotland is set to be 10% lower than in England - thanks to policies like the Scottish Child Payment. If Scotland can act to protect children from poverty, why can’t we? www.theguardian.com/society/2025...

As MPs, we are concerned about the manner of the policing and the apparent denial of civil liberties at a recent Gaza protest. We write to the Home Secretary seeking an independent investigation into the policing of the protest and review of public order legislation.

Pleasure to speak at the national @neunion.bsky.social sixth form strike rally. Full solidarity with non-academised sixth form teachers in their fight for fair pay. Where is the 5.5% for all? #PayUp #FairPayforAll
