One thing, I think, that drives support for the current US is that most people still think we're in a scarcity world. Not really; it's an access controlled world. Scarcity lets those who control access have power. The same controls on post-scarcity do as well, but with less justification.

I'm seeing a lot of good discussion on impoundment. My impression is that it doesn't go far enough. The basis of that is spending too much time as a librarian working with boards and local governments. My guess is that Trump thinks the total dollars are available, and he can spend where he wants.
