Incredible first look at RESISTANCE in the Observer today with an extract by Steve McQueen and selection of some of the fascinating archival images it gathers @4thestatebooks.bsky.social www.theguardian.com/culture/2025...

my favorite reviews of Rejection so far are like, this made me want to puke up my ribcage. don't show it to anyone or read it in public. wear head to toe PPE while you read it and perform a Shinto cleansing rite as soon as you finish. 5 stars 👍🏼

REJECTION is coming to the UK in time for Valentine's Day (do not buy as Valentine's gift, buy it for something else) www.bookbrunch.co.uk/page/article...

All I want for Christmas is you, Feathers McGraw x

Thanks to the readers, fellow writers and reviewers who have made time for Hagstone; to all the festivals & bookshops who invited me to read, and to @kishani.bsky.social @4thestatebooks.bsky.social @mattclacher.bsky.social @cormackinsella.bsky.social

With thanks to @kishani.bsky.social Delighted to get a proof copy of Fun and Games, the forthcoming debut novel by John Patrick McHugh. Very much looking forward to this – have heard great things. Had the privilege of hearing him read from the excellent Pure Gold a while back.

‘I thought carefully about the responsibility that my position has afforded me, and I wanted to create something with a collective spirit’ @renieddolodge.bsky.social interviewed in @theguardian.com about @monumentbooks.bsky.social! @4thestatebooks.bsky.social www.theguardian.com/books/2024/d...

Fun and Games by John Patrick McHugh is essentially unputdownable in my view. So moving, so believable, so unsparing of yet merciful towards its characters. Funny and heartbreaking (what more can you ask for?).

Lovely to see BUTTER by Asako Yuzuki, translated by Polly Barton and Forest of Noise by @mosababutoha.bsky.social in Helen Charman’s @artreview.bsky.social books of the year

Great event today at the Irish Writers’ weekend at the British Library with @sineadgleeson.bsky.social talking about her novel Hagstone, alongside the brilliant @ronanhession.bsky.social and @jancarsonwrites.bsky.social on their recent books, deftly chaired by Barry Pierce

I live for Mark Rylance as Cromwell!

There is now some hard evidence that X boosted the Trump campaign and suppressed the Harris campaign. What's to stop Musk from doing the same in other countries? www.threads.net/@profsander....

The new Francis Bacon show at the National Portrait Gallery is so interesting and affecting for bringing out the biographical and personal aspects of his work. Especially moving to see the paintings of George Dyer.

This is an absolute pain in the arse

Happy New Year!

Currently reading the utterly brilliant Thunderclap by Laura Cumming, and so went to go find the painting in the National Gallery that opens the book, the remarkable, A View of Delft by Carel Fabritius, tucked away in a corner among some warren-like rooms.

Loved, loved the Philip Guston show at the Tate. Think Laura Cumming captured it perfectly, ‘Tragicomic, wild, ceaselessly inventive…unmissable’, in her top ten shows of the year www.theguardian.com/artanddesign...

A special year! Thank you to all these writers, all the many people who helped their books into the world and the readers, booksellers, reviewers and bloggers who supported them once out there.

'What does it feel like to stand at the edge of annihilation? I can only speak from my vantage a few degrees from the epicenter of war. Here, it feels like falling through an endless throat'. Sarah Aziza in @thebaffler.com thebaffler.com/latest/dooms...

Interested in the logistics of this jacket, feel like it really takes cut outs to a whole new place. No cold shoulder this…

Love this Booker Prizes film for @escoffery.bsky.social’s Booker shortlisted debut, If I Survive You, featuring Alfred Enoch in an electric performance. So good! m.youtube.com/watch?featur...

Totally loved this book and I know you will love it too. It's going to be the talk of the town

‘Years later, while cloistered in the countryside and aching for my birthplace by the sea, I would come to understand. There was more than one way to be lost, more than one way to be saved’ Stunning excerpt from HOW TO SAY BABYLON by Safiya Sinclair in Guardian amp.theguardian.com/culture/2023...
