Picking up on this, we might need to stop calling heat pumps and air conditioners different things. Air conditioners are just “one way heat pumps”. They should all be mandated to be two way, and easy to use and install that way, both as designed and as a retrofit.

Corn and soybean biofuels: worsening economic inequality and damaging our biodiversity, fresh water & food supply. All of this is made possible by deceptive arguments that they are a climate change solution. CA could help fix this by jettisoning its low-carbon fuel standard.

Heartbreaking to see what climate change is doing to rural America. Voluntary buyouts are arguably the most effective way to protect people from extreme flooding, but rural communities are already struggling with declining populations / tax bases. More departures only make that worse.

I have a new story up on @latitudemedia.bsky.social. It's about a big new deal between Meta and the next-gen geothermal startup XGS for 150MW to power a New Mexico data center. It's the second 150MW geothermal deal Meta has inked after last year's with Sage. www.latitudemedia.com/news/meta-be...

Amazon announces deal with Talen to power its PA data centers with nuclear energy, calling it "the largest private sector investment in state history." But wait, there's a caveat: they're only going to "explore" building new Small Modular Reactors. www.reuters.com/business/ene...

One thing we didn’t touch on: If Trump gets away with this, he will absolutely do the same thing during the 2026 & 2028 elections. He will manufacture unrest just like in LA and send federal troops to every major city as a way to intimidate voters and decrease turnout. Functional end to fair elex.

Making financial stability risks go away with a blindfold, part 2. After Trump/DOGE decimated the climate science agencies, Congress is preparing to gut the Office of Financial Research, "critical to understanding where risk is building up in the financial system." @ourfinancialsecurity.org

Here's EPA's proposal to get rid of greenhouse gas limits for power plants. Again: if the US power sector was a country, it would be the sixth biggest emitter in the world. It accounted for 5 percent of all emissions between 1990 and 2022. This is completely absurd. www.epa.gov/system/files...

This research is critical for climate campaigners to understand. Focusing on energy supplies is especially critical for expanding the base of the US climate movement. Reducing fossil gas production for LNG and data centers helps reduce emissions AND makes life more affordable for everyday people.

An AI-related provision in the “Big Beautiful Bill” could restrict state-level legislation of energy-hungry data centers—and is raising bipartisan objections across the US. www.wired.com/story/a-poli...

Concerned about the damaging impacts of rising GHG emissions on our economy & life savings? This paper explains why pensions & other asset owners have a fiduciary duty toward workers, retirees & other beneficiaries to mitigate these impacts by driving down emissions.

The largest banks & asset managers are now suddenly "deeply concerned" about the cybersecurity risk management practices at federal regulatory agencies. Someone should tell them about Musk & DOGE, they apparently missed that story, it's not mentioned in their letter. bpi.com/wp-content/u...

DC is denied the right to vote for members of Congress, so when it gets a chance to weigh in on MAGA, it votes with great passion.

Centralized control over key information infrastructures is a systemic risk.

Let history note: what's happening on the streets of LA is an extension of DOGE. Musk's guys illegally consolidated data from across government and cut a corrupt contract with Palantir to build an immigrant-hunting computer system. Presumably in use now.

UN report on tech industry's emissions: Among top 10 largest companies (by electricity-consumption), only Amazon, Alphabet & Microsoft have committed to achieving 100% renewable electricity use by 2030. Credit, I suppose, to those acknowledging that shifting to RE power is doable this decade...

When your plan for your economic progress rests on a technology that, despite hundreds of $billions of investment, is so far delivering "complete accuracy collapse," perhaps it's time to consider diversifying? www.theguardian.com/technology/2...

How does Wall St maintain investor optimism for US equities as Trump destroys innovation investments, legal certainty, global trade frameworks & middle class buying power? Acc to Blackrock, put your faith in AI. It provides "near-term" earnings support & "could" drive productivity in the long term.

Low-cost renewables are supplanting coal & gas around the US. Good news for hundreds of millions of electricity customers, bad news for Trump's fossil fuel industry donors. Congress will soon decide which group it wants to help.

Big tech companies are willing to "turn a blind eye to their renewable goals for some period of time in order to get access” to gas-fired power in Texas. www.texastribune.org/2025/06/05/t...

IRA tax credit repeal would be painful to ratepayers - especially when added to the to the punishment already coming from tariffs, LNG exports, and fossil fuel-powered data centers.

The utility Ameren is building 6 gas-fired power plants & yet says its goal is to align its operations with Paris targets. When @bradlander.bsky.social & others sought an independent validation of this claim, management said no way- and 92% of shareholders followed its lead. @energyandpolicy.org

Let's be careful not to overstate the importance of the recent tiff w Trump. Leonard Leo is the "generalissimo" with a $1.6B warchest & he'll be around long after Trump is gone. www.wsj.com/business/med...

NYC's 5 pension plans have $300B AUM & Blackrock manages 20% of it - despite its abject failure to show it cares about systemic climate risk. @bradlander.bsky.social has given it & other asset managers a June 30 deadline to show their cards. Critical leadership at a time of growing climate risk.

No matter who you are, this story affects you. Please check out Season 12 of @drilledmedia.bsky.social about Stabding Rock, the SLAPP suit against Greenpeace & a massive threat to free speech and activism. NEW REPORT: Artificial Power, our 2025 Landscape Report, is out. Today’s AI isn’t just being used by us, it’s being used on us. We urgently need to reclaim public power over the future trajectory of AI. Another path is possible. Read the report: ainowinstitute.org/2025-landscape

“The biggest risks facing the financial system . . . are from climate and environmental risk," says one of the Bank of England staff members who departed as the bank's leadership worked to downplay the problem. Inspiration for departing staff of US financial regulators to also sound the alarm?

The breakdown of insurance markets adds to the house affordability crisis, with growing numbers at risk of losing their homes in the face of ever-escalating climate disasters and storms. "22% of Native American homeowners, 14% of Hispanic homeowners, and 11% of Black homeowners have no insurance."

Deregulation of our financial system couldn't be coming at more inopportune time, with climate scientists telling us that this summer will bring us new weather extremes - already destabilizing the insurance and mortgage markets.
