This has been a consistently fun course to be a part of… highly recommend it! biodiversitycenter.wsl.ch/en/events/de...

Great postdoc opportunity in a great lab to work with #eDNA 👇

Slowly but surely this Starter Pack is starting to bloom! (#algaepun) If you want to follow more freshwater algae people this is the place for you! If you want to be added to this starter pack, HMU! go.bsky.app/KLaFWG7

Check the first comprehensive assessment of biodiversity knowledge shortfalls at contimental level in today's issue of @science.org, led by Luis Pertierra. Extensive data and the state-of-the-art size spectrum analyses showing over 50% decline in fisheries potential in Paraná River Floodplains 🌐🐟👩🏻‍🔬

We've reached 1.5°C global warming. With current policies, we're heading for a catastrophic 2.7°C warming. A new review paper in Science shows: this would change the Arctic 'beyond recognition', with knock-on effects (like rising seas) around the world. 🌊 www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

The first many-analysts study in ecology is finally published! 🥳🙌 300+ coauthors and 5+ years, this was a massive effort by @elliotgould.bsky.social Hannah Fraser Tim Parker and co. Open access 👉 bmcbiol.biomedcentral.com/articles/10....

One of my PhD students just shared this with me after I edited a draft of his first chapter 😆

📢 I am very excited to share our new paper in @commsbio.bsky.social: nature.com/articles/s42... . 🔥 🌍🧪How does #warming affect #plankton #bodysize distributions? We used one of the largest outdoor #mesocosm experiments to test our hypothesis 1/

Nice to see @drdanperkins.bsky.social and @vssaito.bsky.social transitioning to the @bsky.app . They post about #streams, #rivers, #ecology, #biodiversity, #GlobalChange, #fish, #macroinvertebrates, #science, #LandUseChange, #AquaticEcology and other cool stuff 🤩

A really cool and fun project where we combined information about feeding links from multiple sources to build more detailed, accurate and mechanistic tropical food webs and characterised their energy flows 🐟🦟💦🏞️

Been writing press releases & doing media interviews for my branch of UCU today. A very grim, dark, emotional day at Cardiff University. 400 jobs to go. Whole departments (including modern languages, nursing, music, religion, ancient history) to be axed. www.bbc.com/news/article...

Out now in @nature.com! Our comprehensive meta-analysis of global terrestrial and marine genetic diversity demonstrates rapid loss of genetic diversity and identifies conservation interventions that could mitigate this process www.nature.com/articles/s41... 🧪🌍🦤🧬 #consgen #PopGen

Congratulations to Alberto Alves Campos, a DeHaan Finalist for the 2025 Indianapolis Prize. Campos founded Aquasis, a nonprofit for endangered species in Brazil, and helped improve the conservation status of the Antillean manatee. 🌍🧪 @indianapolisprize.bsky.social 1/

In case you missed it: 2024 was the world's warmest year since @noaa.gov records began in 1850. Global surface temperature was 2.32°F (1.29°C) above the 20th-century average. The 10 warmest years since 1850 have all occurred in the past decade.

Don't write off logged forests🌳. Converting to oil palm plantations will have much wider impacts and logged forests can still be valuable for biodiversity 🐸🐍🪳🦋. Read more ⬇️ bit.ly/3PvpLrl 📷Ed Turner
