🔥 NEW PAPER 🔥 The dream collaboration with wonderful colleague & friend @dryasmiyn.bsky.social has come to fruition w/ our CEP paper: "Too quant to crit? Advancing QuantCrit methodologies in educational psychology" doi.org/10.1016/j.ce... *Yes, the title is based on MCHammer lyrics Fav quotes ⬇️

LOVE the idea of a "good stuff" index! 👏👏

Graduating during the pandemic slowed down my process and is part of why I did two postdocs. Now as a first year faculty, all the federal grants are frozen. I love the work I do but this has all of us questioning how much www.science.org/content/arti...

Woke up with the Monday blues but remembering tonight’s panel on navigating theory development with the wonderful Allison Zengilowski, @carltonfong.bsky.social, and @jeffgreene.bsky.social has me feeling excited again. Hope to see you there!

#AERA25 and #APA25 folks take note! 🍰 😂 @aeraedresearch.bsky.social @aera-motsig.bsky.social

There are currently three open faculty positions (all levels) in my department (Psychology) Oslo is a lovely city, modestly sized (600k) but a capital, surrounded by forest and the fjord We're also a stable democracy with high support of and trust in science www.sv.uio.no/english/abou...

we are abandoning vulnerable students #edusky

Last week, as part of our @mcgill.ca LS brown bag series, we did a "speed-mentoring" activity that ended up being SO awesome, much more successful than I had predicted. TL;DR: GREAT activity for community-building! For more details, read on... #AcademicTwitter 1/3 @edtechprof.bsky.social

Brock University (Canada) Psychology Dept has a position open, for teaching-intensive, statistics-focused person. brocku.wd3.myworkdayjobs.com/brocku_caree... #AcademicSky #PsychSciSky #PsychJobs #CanPsych

Re sabbaticals: how do you handle your lab/on-going research? Do you cut out or scale back? Do you work less or does research just fill the time that was teaching/service? If you travel/do research visits/try to learn things, how do you also run your lab? Do you tell people you'll be slower?

🚨New pub alert!!! @natejones.bsky.social and I found that when teachers express more negative emotions, students are less engaged in math and ELA, and enjoy ELA less. And we offer a new measure for observing teacher affect!! www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

Lol I need to print this out for occasional use (and as a reminder for myself as part of the crowd). @denniswendt.bsky.social seems like you could put this on your door. :)

This TICS paper turned out to be unexpectedly timely... We could have called it "Why DEI and Merit Go Hand in Hand" given recent developments... Valuing diversity and excellence/merit aren't opposing forces -- they're complementary.

2 of 3 reviewers on my interpretive qualitative paper want intercoder reliability tests, random sample to prevent selection bias, tables w/counts, comparison to those not interviewed, & generalizability. If you are NOT qualified to review qualitative research, please say no to the journal's request.

You should all register for Ben's workshop! I used one of @benheddy.bsky.social's activities today in Achievement Motivation. There was tons of laughter and it was proclaimed "the best day ever." (1/5) @aeratepsig.bsky.social @aera-motsig.bsky.social

Happy #TeachingThursday! We are excited to announce our next webinar will feature the delightful @benheddy.bsky.social talking about "How to channel your inner Ms. Frizzle: Creating experiential activities in educational psychology courses" on February 21 from 1-2 CST.

It is an honor for anyone to care enough about your work to check it, so thanks dudes. A mistake I suggest others not make is failing to ensure that all the data, from download, to merge, to analysis is available and each step, not just the final analysis, is reproducible.

@aera-motsig.bsky.social

One of the most interesting and controversial areas of motivation research: the role of rewards! Super excited to dig into this with my motivation class this semester! #MondayMotivation

New paper out! Across 3 large high school datasets, we found that girls and boys largely place similar value on math. No meaningful differences were found in the most recent dataset (2012), but some differences were found in the two older datasets (1990s and early 2000s). doi.org/10.1002/jad....

YAY cannot wait to read this! Thank you for doing this work, Katie et al.!

I'm SO thankful but also dismayed by @carltonfong.bsky.social's review count! I did 31 reviews in 2024 (>5x the # of manuscripts I had accepted in 2024, and 2-3x the # of manuscripts under review at any time during '24 that I was 1st/senior author on). I'm having to say no to lots of invites rn!

Hi! Sharing info re: webinar organized by SSHD, for a special issue on Critical Consciousness in Research in Human Development Link to register: montclair.zoom.us/meeting/regi... Please reach out w/ ?s !

Also, 😉

It might seem counterintuitive, but classrooms that are well-structured actually increase students’ sense of autonomy and their engagement. Learn how to manage classrooms well from Dr. Erika Patall in this APA Division 15 podcast: soundcloud.com/user-8836504...

@mcgill.ca campus is giving winter wonderland ❄️ be careful out there, folks! Time to break out those crampons for getting to class!
