Great thread from @walaszek.medsky.social 👇🏽

You are absolutely correct @trishaelliott.bsky.social - @bmj.com has a large array of open access articles and is committed to increasing access bmjgroup.com/bmj-increase... In this age where access to good quality research is declining it’s worth knowing this!!

Great article by @helensalisbury.bsky.social - thanks for sharing and making more accessible @trishaelliott.bsky.social

😬

What does this mean for UK data when Palantir technologies has secured NHS contracts??

With water and other bills rising, and the Welsh population ageing, assistance for older people is needed now more than ever. Here are three sources of support | Age Cymru @bylines.cymru

So interesting to learn that Deepseek achieved very similar outcomes to Open Ai and other generative AIs using a different (and much cheaper) strategy.

Cognitive psych is often traced back to the 1950s. Psychology is often traced to Wundt's lab in 1879. Textbooks speak of "proto-psychologists" like Fechner & Helmholtz in the 1800s... Westerners all. Have you heard about Ibn al-Haytham, whose work predated them by 100s of years? 1/4

Advancing diversity isn’t about sidelining merit but addressing inequities that often prevent true merit from being recognised. Diversity programmes address systemic bias and discrimination #equity #diversity #inclusion #belonging #EDI #DEI #mythofmeritocracy #bias #discrimination #systemicracism

The UK is preparing for a new era of Alzheimer's care with blood-based diagnostic biomarkers. These tests could revolutionise how we diagnose and treat this devastating disease. Learn more in our article in the Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine. journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/...

My commentary on the do's and don'ts of cognitive evaluations in LLMs is now out in Nature Human Behavior: doi.org/10.1038/s415... posting here with a figure that didn't make it into the final draft and is now instead a boring table :P #CogSci #LLMs #AI

Academic clinicians, I’m preparing a report on why professionals need more than 2 years training to be competent and safe. I’d welcome suggestions of articles on the complexity of clinical knowledge and how it is acquired. Thanks if you can recommend any (I have my own obvs). #medsky #academicsky

Five new patients in memory clinic yesterday- busy day!Our memory clinic waiting times have been unacceptably long, nearly a year to first appointment back in the summer. This has consequences- people become unwell, high risk situations emerge before they are seen, families seek private assessment

@jessphillipsmp.bsky.social you have done so much to support women who have been victims of abuse, thankyou.

I read Jonathan Alter’s biography of Jimmy Carter a few years ago. It was simply amazing how he never stopped going 100% in all that life offered: learning to downhill skill at 62, climbing Kilimanjaro at 64, picking up snorkeling at 90. RIP.

Right (German) BlueSky. You up for a quest. While at my dad's at Xmas, i found a picture and postcard from my godfather, who i have never met. He was a German student. Manfred Maywyrm (?) from Bad Homburg studying in the UK in 1980. Good friend to my parents. They lost touch. Help me find him?

Is this still available to watch @drrageshri.bsky.social ? I’d love to hear more about your work, and that of @dr-chrissy-jay.bsky.social #perinatalmentalhealth

Sad reading. Data on older people remains sparse in comparison to working age adults.

We strongly suggest that academic publishers and other platforms that host research rapidly implement a Share to Bluesky button for their articles. Here's how: docs.bsky.app/docs/advance... #AcademicSky #HigherEd #Altmetrics

Blue tit singing on a cold early morning. You can even see its song in the air.

I see families insisting that patients stay at home, where they are often lonely, frightened and at risk because “we could never do that to Mum”. Care homes aren’t perfect, but they are warm, safer than many alternative environments and full of caring staff and other residents 24 hours a day.

Such a great conference. I couldn’t make it this year 😥but previously used for CPD for both psychiatry and GP. 2 great presenters @suhana.bsky.social and @edtomu.bsky.social! @gerisoc.bsky.social @jkdhesi.bsky.social @mancunianmedic.bsky.social #polypharmacy #endoflife #medsky #psychsky

Shared from @katewomersley.com: “From today, please let’s agree the collective noun for “women of a certain age”: “a handful”. And every power to them.” 👇🏽

Amazing @matthewhodson.bsky.social ❤️ I often use the analogy of HIV in my clinic. With good public health messaging + lifestyle strategies + medication + improving access to care (- stigma) = long term condition with good quality of life 🤞🏽dementia is moving along the same arc #worldaidsday

Thanks for not putting this behind a paywall @shaunlintern.bsky.social - well worth considering the implications in practice.
