ISO Trans/nonbinary people to hire as (non-English) language experts Are you trans and know a language other than English? I'm looking for people who are in-community and want to collaboratively develop free language learning materials. Interest form: bit.ly/TLangExpert Please share!

On Wednesdays, we listen to #SpeakingOfLanguage. 🎙 Kris Knisely expands on his recent talk about gender justice in language education. Listen in & like us! https://lrc.cornell.edu/podcast #pamplemousse @krisknisely.bsky.social

"one of the most alarming escalations in the ongoing assault on trans rights [..] History is littered with examples of marginalized groups whose movement was curtailed as a precursor to broader persecution. Lawmakers, activists & allies must recognize the gravity of this moment—before it’s too late"

"Solidarity and a refusal to practice 'anticipatory obedience' are essential. If parents, students and educators together refuse these policies, the policies will become unenforceable..." — @lewispants.bsky.social

oh good they’re doing Lavender Scare II

Just recorded a Speaking of Language podcast episode on gender-just languaging & language teaching. It was a fun parenthesis in the middle of all this [gestures around] that included some good quotes from @kirbyconrod.bsky.social & J Paiz. I'll share my rambles when it drops on Wednesday! 🤍

Kris Knisely - Doing It (Gender) Justice: Reimagining Language Education... youtu.be/TbC6Awun4fM?... On my to-watch list. Thank you for this incredibly important work, and I look forward to learning. @krisknisely.bsky.social

ASAP action: UVA folks/alums+anyone concerned about UVA Health (+the many Virginia families it serves) returning to cutting trans care (after cutting 1/31, restarting 2/13), here's a template+email addresses to email before tomorrow's closed board meeting on the topic: tinyurl.com/trans-care-week

I joined more than 350 LGBTQIA+ historians in signing this letter protesting the government attempt to erase trans people from history by censoring the Stonewall National Monument website. Erasing a word does not erase our existence--now or in the past. docs.google.com/document/d/1...

Public comment is now open for passport gender marker changes. You can go here to go to each of the three proposed passport rules, and submit comment. My suggestion: be unique, argue for trans-inclusive policies, against the constitutionality of the changes, etc. www.reddit.com/r/Passports/...

Public comments are open for gender marker changes for trans people on passports. DS-11 Application for passport: www.federalregister.gov/documents/20... DS-82 Passport Renewal: www.federalregister.gov/documents/20... DS-5504 Name Change and Corrections. www.federalregister.gov/documents/20...

COGEL is the Linguistic Society of America's Committee on Gender Equity in Linguistics and this is their 5th Wikipedia Edit-a-thon. Whether you're a longtime Wikipedia contributor or looking to start, this is a great group to get involved with. You don't have to be an LSA member to join either!

Here is the current recommended vaccine schedule. Please share, bookmare, or save for anyone for whom this may be helpful in the future. And never forget that RFK Jr. blatantly lied to Congress.

Figure out what organizing means to you and do it. If you’re not sure how to think about that question, here’s a book to start with, not because it has all the answers but because it will help you think about your answers: www.haymarketbooks.org/books/1922-l...

#DDFC is a collective of language scholar-educators & learners in French & Francophone Studies who are committed to challenging oppression in all of its forms. We're built by & for those marginalized in & by our field. Repost & follow to help us (re)connect with people who share our commitments? 🤍

Our turn DC

I'm virtually 'at' Cornell today presenting "Doing it (gender) justice: Reimagining language education through trans knowledges" right now. There's something that feels different about being with people to have this conversation today --- I don't quite have the words. 💜

If you are a conference organizer, I doubt I'm the only one, but I will chat with you about how to make things as safe as possible for trans/GnC people FOR FREE right now. It's not that I don't value my time (or others), but I want people to be safe and I know not everyone has $ for advice/help.

Overwhelmed? Me too. I'm trying to focus & not freeze up. A few ideas I've latched onto: 1. Every time you're not ok: 2 deep breaths, extra long exhale 2. Get vaccines (community care) 3. Wear a mask maskbloc.org 4. Take daily (focused, collective) action. 5calls.org www.transformationsproject.org

More of this energy, please! California AG's office tells hospitals in the state that denying or terminating medical care for trans youth is out of step with the latest guidance from the Federal Department of Justice and a violation of state law.

Get the new booster while you still can!

Can't stress enough how important it is to care for our nervous systems right now and in the days, months and years to come. All of that fear and anxiety will take a toll on us. Take time to breathe, feel it and let it move through you. Even if all you can do is 5-15mins a day, that can do wonders.

Massive protest at Children’s National in DC. A former patient is speaking who they used in promotional to show how much they care about trans kids. Now the hospital is one of a small few nationwide complying with trumps unlawful EO to end trans care.

Wear. A. Mask. It is cheap. If you can't afford, check if maskbloc.org has some for you It is easy. I say this as someone with POTS, who is supposed to near-constantly have access to my mouth to hydrate, and wears them _everywhere_ It signals disdain of fascism It cares for vulnerable people

Tomorrow in DC we’re protesting DC Children’s Hospital for ending all care to trans people under 19 I would love to see my followers join me in protesting a move that’s already impacting folks very close to me If not now, when?

Okay, I cannot recommend 5calls.org enough. Enter your address and it will find all your reps (federal and state). AND give you a list of issues to call about AND which reps to call about each of them AND a little script for each, in case it's helpful. They have an app, too.

Academics in safer places: One thing you could be doing right now is creating a one-semester, year, etc. (whatever you can do) fellowship for a trans academic to come to your institution. Make it sound as prestigious as you can. Create a safety latch for someone who might need that time to regroup.

I am solemnly tapping the sign again kconrod.medium.com/the-right-do...

I'm writing today and the kid gloves are off.

California DOE fires back against Trump's executive order: "It does nothing" "It is against federal law for the White House to dictate what educators can and cannot teach" Will not comply.

Nonbinary people who language in Japanese and English, check out this flyer from Yuka Takao! Maybe their study can be a lil distraction from the hellscape? 💜

I'm talking to YOU hospital administrators. Stop complying in advance with anti-trans temper tantrums on paper. You owe it to the trans kids you serve to fight for their right to care, not fold at the first salvo.

Here is something you can do right now

Cis people, here’s what you do: Find your reps on house.gov & senate.gov. Write up a message. “I’m asking you to speak out against the EO cutting federal funds for gender-affirming medical care for transgender folks under 19.” Call or email each office & read/send your message. Now keep doing that.

This presidential administration is demonizing trans people because of the kind of self-determined freedom and agency we represent. When the public allows that to stand, *everyone* sacrifices some degree of freedom and bodily autonomy.

In 24 hours we've gotten executive orders attempting to ban gender affirming care, ban recognition of trans youth in schools, ban trans employees in the federal government. It's a full on societal purge of trans people. They meant it when they said they wanted to eradicate us.

Cis folks, check on your trans friends right now. I don't ever think I've seen this many friends in crisis. It's beyond anything I ever imagined. We're not ok.
