Ok but can we talk about those amazing hazmat space suits? I would get BSL 4 pathogen clearance to chest bump a spacesuit buddy.

*sigh* I put together a newsletter of upcoming federal grant opportunities and in the time between when I made my draft and today, all but one has been removed.

Science (and science policy, and conservation) friends, I need your help! We are collecting *specific, clear* examples of harms caused by the Trump administration's attacks on science, to be included in an open letter. Can be links to news stories/social media posts. 🧪🦑🌎 #SciComm #SciPol

Is more money in your pocket freedom? Or is freedom being able to easily travel to another state in a car, send a letter from a rural town, and not having to worry about surprise storms or contaminated food?

Oh man it’s Friday.

My friends, I have terrible news. I’ve written an academic paper about Bluesky and why it’s great for scientists Reviewers liked it and it got minor revisions But a peer reviewer requested that I remove my brief aside about ALF’s alien boy bits (as an example of the quirky culture here)

Something that’s been helping my mental health a lot lately has been thinking historically. I’ve been re-listening to the podcast Presidential, a series of 45 minute biographies on each president. I’ve also been writing a journal basically as a long letter to a person living 100 years from now.

ATTENTION If you are on a study section that was scheduled to meet, please post or DM me with information regarding: 1. The name of the study section 2. The scheduled date 3. Whether the meeting actually occurred THANK YOU

I escaped poverty because I am a scientist. And I am a scientist because of the National Science Foundation. A 🧵:

I want to see the American Geophysical Union (AGU) continue its awesome work on justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion. This thread is a call to AGU and AGU members. 1/

One of my former coworkers who left in December to work at NIH just got a termination notice this morning.

🧵Who is opposing the Trump administration? I analysed 76 actions of the administration since inauguration and then searched for *meaningful* opposition to each. I grouped the types of opposition and considered what we can learn from both them & actions where opposition has been lacking 1/24

Here are a few fancy moths to brighten your day. These are all tiger moths - (Hyperthaema sp.), (Bernathonomus sp.), (Amaxia sp.) #Inverts #MothMonday Bellavista Cloud Forest Reserve, Ecuador

something really rubs me the wrong way about how every post about a federal employee getting purged is filled with comments about how an internet rando wants to know how the given employee voted. like, it's bad no matter who they voted for?
