@anthropic.com is this a placeholder account, or does this account monitor and respond?

xkcd.com/385/ this is why we need dei, in a nutshell.

quaternion cube... ok, someone 3d printed a quaternion rotation ”rubick's cube” this is badass youtu.be/AnbE6mXGabw

ok @corsair.com mb + cpu power cables, 4-pin fan splitter, 2x pcie power cables (not shown) complete. now let's see how badly i'll have to alter the drive power cables to fit this murphy build...

Deep etch into ferrite with a fiber laser works well. Time to make replacement recording heads for disk drives and video recorders!

happy new year!

t = -35:00

... and by murphy build, i mean: - full custom cables, including fans - squeeze heatsink by 2mm - lap heatsink bottom as the heatpipes twisted in the aluminum block - custom drive mounting for 10x 2.5” 200gb sas 12g ssd cache - fixing airflow and replacing shitty fans - grinding the front bezel

@corsair.com 12-inches is not long enough! custom cables it is... ... this is turning into a murphy build. don't particularly care, save for the time ”wasted” on building it correctly instead of using bullshit extenders... so why are you doubling wires on the psu/mb cable? (type 4)

rofl twitter suggested a grok prompt: ”Draw me on New Years partying with fireworks. Include large golden '2025' in huge text with a famous landmark near me in the background” looks nothing like me, nor am i anywhere within 2000km of those landmarks... and i certainly don't have 2 right hands

Annual New Year's Eve year-in-review post is up on the blog, featuring bunnies and kittens, dragons and dark castles. 🥂 erinmorgenstern.com/2024/12/good...

Favorite outtake from getting the book stack photo, Vesper tried to help. 🖤

when the heatsink is 3mm too tall for a 3u chassis, make it a bit shorter by bending the heatpipes just a little. can't find the i/o plate... this is going to vex me. is @asrockrack on here?

i've never met a rackmount chassis that didn't need power tools to correct basic things.. this build require an angle grinder, a jigsaw, an a shitload of filing to correct airflow problems as well as getting the drive cage to fit and open against the front bezel.

i was just exposed to this: so far it looks rad. i'm massively slep deprived (notice that missing e? my sleep has been short) so i'm not going to comment on it this evening, but posting about it will remind me to examine it tomorrow!

www.anthropic.com/news/golden-... in case anyone is wondering what i'm babbling about...

@anthropic.com i read the 'golden gate' paper last night... a phenomenal piece of work. it'll take me a bit to digest, but it has me asking a lot of possibilty stupid questions, such as 'how can we compare concept spaces' and 'what exactly does that even mean'. stupid questions are good.

Hey folks! My first new book in a while releases today! It's book 4 of my Shards of Shadow series of Urban Fantasy adventures. It's called The Clash of Shadows and it's available just about everywhere! www.bookofdeacon.com/2024/11/18/t...

thus far i have #obs streaming my home theater to #twitch (hq, video capture via mirrored dp ports on an rt a4000, both 7.1 surround and stereo). twitch will likely take issue streaming terry pratchett's the #hogfather, so i'm reimplementing twitch. with 60mbps up, i should be ok.

my friends and chosen family watch terry pratchett's #hogfather every december. alas, this year we're all over the world... ... so i'm reimplementing twitch (not at scale) so we can all watch. i needed more server capacity, so i'm upgrading old junk to less old junk. cut the airflow slits or not?

i had a suicide scare in my crowd when we collectively realized person B hadn't been heard from or been climbing with us for a month. this is a time where making sure your friends are alright is something we should probably think about more.
