An unvaccinated adult who died in New Mexico had measles, USA Today reports. This may be the 2nd U.S. death this year. As the number of measles cases swell, there may be a huge segment of the U.S. population that is unknowingly vulnerable to the virus: People born between 1957-1989. 1/

When you find a kitschy little thing that looks exactly like your dog, there’s no way to resist bringing it home, too. 🐶

NEW @pbsnews.org Classroom Educator Voice — Hear from teachers on the plans to dismantle the DoE. "It will be like going back in time to the 1960s, when children with learning differences and challenging behavior were not entitled to an education at all" #EduSky #sschat bit.ly/41HYHvE

This is concerning on many, many levels. Questions racing through my mind: Is the target abortion medication? Medication to treat mental health disorders/illness? Or transgender people? Or all of the above? What about HIPAA protections? www.nytimes.com/2025/03/05/h...

May I suggest something radical? Have mercy on people. Even on here. What’s happening is unprecedented, so politicians, journalists, public servants etc are doing their best to adjust. Not doing exactly what you think they should doesn’t mean they’re giving up or giving in.

The Florida Office of Insurance Regulation has demanded detailed information about patients and their medications, raising privacy concerns.

Sen. Elissa Slotkin delivered the Democratic rebuttal to President Trump's speech to Congress from Wyandotte, Michigan, a place she says that both she and Trump won. “America wants change,” she said, but there is a “responsible way,” calling Trump’s approach “reckless.” Here's the latest.

Booing and heckling is met with chants of “USA! USA!” during Trump’s address to Congress tonight. Rep. Al Green, a Democrat from Texas, was escorted out for disruption. Trump declared that his presidency has been “the most successful in the history of our nation.” It’s unclear by which measure.

There's always a story behind the story. A new Detroit Free Press story about a mom's cancer journey also describes the development of the ultrasound technology used to treat her. NIH funding - including indirect costs - was critical. My attempt to explain why: open.substack.com/pub/karagavi...

Amber Glenn performed in Washington tonight at #LegacyonIce, a tribute to the 28 figure skaters, families and coaches killed in the January plane crash at National Airport, and to the EMS workers who led the recovery effort.

This @freep.com story by @kristenshamus.bsky.social with photos by Mandi Wright is amazing - and shows the power of decades of NIH-funded research at the University of Michigan & beyond, through the tale of a single #crc patient: www.freep.com/story/news/h...

Powerful story by @kristenshamus.bsky.social, with a critical note: most if not all of these incredible treatments were developed from federal funding and all four cancer centers receive NCI funding. www.freep.com/story/news/h...

While Canadians are not generally known for flag waving, President Trump’s repeated threats have led to a surge in flag sales. The country’s flag makers are struggling to keep up with soaring demand.

Incredibly sad news today: Three more Michigan children have died of flu. Two deaths were reported today in Kent County and another in Macomb County. That brings the tally up to 5 this year as influenza cases continue to surge and sick people - including kids - fill up hospital beds.

Meeting to choose next year's flu shots is canceled. We will not have enough shots for next flu season. endpts.com/fda-meeting-...

The Associated Press on Friday filed a lawsuit against top White House officials, accusing them of violating the First and Fifth Amendments by denying AP reporters access in retaliation for references to the Gulf of Mexico in its articles.

NEW: A first-of-its-kind analysis by @propublica.org found that the sepsis rate in second-trimester pregnancy loss hospitalizations increased by more than 50% after Texas’ near-total abortion ban went into effect in September 2021. www.propublica.org/article/texa...

This is welcome news for so many.

This child’s Jan. 31 death in a hyperbaric oxygen chamber at the Oxford Center in Troy is heartbreaking. The lawyer representing the boy’s family asks important questions about regulation and safety of hyperbaric chambers used at medical spas and treatment centers in Michigan.

A really thorough article from @kristenshamus.bsky.social on the impact of NIH cuts. www.freep.com/story/news/h...
