Veterans have, by law, preferential hiring in the federal government. Disabled veterans get higher preference. Among other things, it's a pipeline to help them adjust post-service. So if you're roasting all the new hires, you're roasting a lot of veterans, with a lean towards disabled vets.

New: Project 2025, which Russell Vought is the architect of, advocates for cutting NIH funding. But, it has been NIH-funded research that contributed to Vought’s own daughter having better treatment options for cystic fibrosis. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

A well-reported piece in @nytimes.com @by-cjewett.bsky.social the intent of these cuts ("reduce federal taxpayer subsidization of leftist agendas") doesn't match their apolitical, mundane, & mission-critical reality govt can't do this research any cheaper than us www.nytimes.com/2025/02/07/u...

I’ve seen this film before. @alhkim.bsky.social @jeffsparks.bsky.social @kristenyoung.bsky.social @situationrheum.bsky.social

🚨BREAKING. From a program officer at the National Science Foundation, a list of keywords that can cause a grant to be pulled. I will be sharing screenshots of these keywords along with a decision tree. Please share widely. This is a crisis for academic freedom & science.

🧵 The CDC's recent directive to remove all articles that mention DEI terms INCLUDING "gender" is more than concerning. Understanding the distinction between sex and gender is critical, including for chronic diseases. An example in axial spondyloarthritis: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38008661/

As predicted, now PubMed is down/offline

One of my fave pics from #ACR24 Cheers to a great year! @rheumcat.bsky.social @kristenyoung.bsky.social

Remember this moment …

One of the hardest skills to develop in medicine—one that simply cannot be learned from books and must be taught and encouraged by example—is the ability to take a step back and say “Wait a minute, that doesn’t make any god damn sense.”

Appreciate the candidness of @edyong209.bsky.social in this opinion piece, researchers can benefit from his insights regarding working with patient partners and disabled/chronically ill colleagues. www.nytimes.com/2023/12/11/o...

my Bluesky feed is medicine, Swifties, and Siamese cats and it’s perfect - never change.

Recently finished The Women by Kristin Hannah — the narrative of women veterans from the Vietnam era is rarely told, and especially compelling if you’ve ever worked with women veterans. Recommend this one, even if the romance is a bit cheesy. #booksky

It's Not Just Joint Pain panel #ACR24 highlights: Can't believe it's been a week since participating in this incredible discussion. Fatigue was among the symptoms given the most attention. Read the Rheumatologist article here: www.the-rheumatologist.org/article/its-...
