hello cis friends this is what people mean by trans genocide if a type of person does not officially exist, then any harm against them cannot be measured or reported this headline change isn't even being caused by an executive order it's simply the NYT editors deciding we don't deserve to exist

“We went to the AAAS meeting to see what practicing scientists think about gutting the nation’s science and technology infrastructure, and here’s what Trump’s acting NSF director and head of OSTP told us” is some fine motherfucking reporting, NYTimes.

Just backed this. I love a cooperative game and some of my favorite games have come from backing kickstarter campaigns!

So petty. And you know what, it’s fine. Everyone knows how this administration feels, and if people have to scroll past this little tantrum to get to the information they need, so be it.

Iceland has a large and growing number of geothermal spas, which are luxurious and beautiful*. But if you visit, don’t sleep on the public pools. I’m convinced they’re the only reason many of us live here winter after winter. *And only one is currently at risk of being swallowed by a volcano

Really hoping this holds up. Indirect costs pay for maintenance of lab equipment, janitorial services, grants management staff and gas and electricity for research buildings. This isn’t “targeting” DEI, it’s destroying research infrastructure and eliminating people’s jobs.

saying "go birds" but just rooting for birds in general, hope they're having fun and not catching that flu

The 51st state thing is embarrassing. Very “That’s why Zendaya should be my girlfriend” energy.

1. Today the NIH director issued a new directive slashing overhead rates to 15%. I want to provide some context on what that means and why it matters. grants.nih.gov/grants/guide...

Do older Americans know that Elon Musk now controls access to their Social Security and health insurance?

The article also mentions the halt in publication of the CDC’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, the first in 60 years. The first administration in all that time to decide they’d like to directly interfere in what scientists can and can’t say. Did voters expect this? Is this what they wanted?

🧵 THREAD: Trump and Rubio have arrested the international humanitarian aid system and forced lifesaving aid programs to completely halt operations — despite an announcement earlier in the week claiming they had changed course. 1/

PEPFAR has saved millions of lives. Prevented tens of millions of children from being orphaned. The impact of it is hard to adequately describe to people outside the global HIV space. I can’t fathom destroying it with a swipe of a sharpie. I can’t fathom wanting to.

We get data *from* the WHO. Without this, we're flying blind with data regarding evolution of infectious agents globally, putting us behind if we need to develop vaccines & treatments, just for one aspect. This puts the whole country at risk.

Reminder that underlying medical conditions include hypertension, diabetes, and asthma.

Happy Solstice! We’ve made it through the darkest day and gain 11 seconds of daylight tomorrow. Don’t forget your sunscreen.

It wasn’t that long ago. Living in a time and place where we can prevent this kind of trauma is a gift and a privilege. Don’t let RFK Jr tell you different.

Shameful. Remember Irish women having to travel to London for abortion care and how antiquated and dystopian that seemed? I give it five years before this is that.

🎵 ooh baby do you know what that's worth

We as scientist urgently need to become better at communicating our science to non-scientists. The vast majority of people don’t work in our fields and we do ourselves and our work a disservice if we only know how to communicate with those few who do!

Are you kidding me with this? It’s is not AI’s job to “translate my work accurately”. Also it is terrible at it.

Opening my 45 or older advent calendar--ooo, Advil! Every day is Advil. The Calendar is on my wall. It's a medicine cabinet.

Atoms are binary. They are either intended to be hydrogen or helium. We can't just scrap this worldview just because of a handful of exceptions
