#IIPF2025 submission deadline has been extended to February 22 - more time for your ideas to brew and for the undecided to reconsider joining us! ⏰ #EconSky #EconConf We look forward to seeing you in Nairobi! Scientific Chairs: @shafikhebous.bsky.social @fgerard.bsky.social + 35 committee members

Jeg skriver i @dagensnaeringsliv.bsky.social om hvordan andre land bør svare på Trumps skatte- og klimapolitikk www.dn.no/innlegg/skat...

“Young people are hanging out less” from @jburnmurdoch.ft.com and great response letter on Hume: “His spirits and physical health were greatly revived by a regular supper of “stovies”, washed down by a daily pint of claret as prescribed by his physician.” (on.ft.com/4alCXIC and on.ft.com/4hlCetL)

"Intergenerational Discounting and Inequality" (joint with @pgpiacquadio.bsky.social) is now out as a working paper! We study all theories of justice that disentangle intergenerational discounting and intergenerational inequality, and I am amazed by the results! www.cesifo.org/en/publicati...

Looking for a post-doc on taxation? We at @skatteforsk.bsky.social are hiring a post-doc! This is of potential interest to the @iipf.bsky.social crowd. Please pass this on to anyone you think might be interested -- still working on building up the Blue Sky network. Details 👇 bit.ly/SkattPostdoc

Should the tax system treat people who are similarly situated equally? In 2017 I wrote an @lsephilosophy.bsky.social dissertation arguing that the basis for equal treatment in tax is weaker than we might think. The paper is now available in the Erasmus Journal for Philosophy and Economics

My paper on the relationship between inequality aversion and non-discrimination has just been published in Economica onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.... The main result is that inequality aversion in tax policy is overestimated when horizontal equity is ignored.

Submit your public finance papers to the next year’s @iipf.bsky.social conference! As a member of the scientific committee, I would love to see some nice optimal tax papers.

Kabelkutt er sløsing Bra kommentar av Gunnar Eskeland www.dn.no/innlegg/kraf...

Thrilled to see “The Economics of Inequality and the Environment” out in the Journal of Economic Literature @aeajournals.bsky.social, joint review with U.Kornek, J.Meya & L.Sager Environmental loss & economic inequality are two key challenges of our time, but how do both relate & interact?

Last NE&EP webinar of this term! Tomorrow 9th at 5pm Paris time (11am EST). Jake Nebel (Princeton) will present: "Welfare Reflections: On Duality Conditions for Social Welfare Evaluation." To register, email us (see sites.google.com/view/normati...)! We very much look forward!

I enjoy a job with a good book budget

Taxing at exit? With the increases in capital gains tax rates in the UK budget, I was surprised that there were no changes to exit taxation. This could treat stayers and leavers more equally. Before the budget, I described what the UK can learn from the Norwegian experience on.ft.com/3ZSDHSo

I created a Public Econ (broadly defined) starter pack (I didn't see one - let me know if I'm wrong), starting from those I am following, or who are following me. I missed a lot. Please reply below this tweet and tag yourselves #econsky #publiceconomics #econ go.bsky.app/EcFdNWG

Made a starter pack on Economists (and related) in Norway: go.bsky.app/SaEqpCs Let me know if you want to be added to the list. Inspired by @jansauermann.bsky.social and @hhsievertsen.bsky.social with the Swedish and Danish lists and the thread by @ginapieters.bsky.social #EconSky 📉📈

I created a starter pack focused on the economics of taxation. I'm unsure if I can grant editing access, but please feel free to suggest any additions! go.bsky.app/QmnUAzv

How much priority should society give to those with greater needs? What are implications for inequality measurement and redistribution? Check out the new working paper by Morten Håvarstein, @pgpiacquadio.bsky.social and me “Equity and Efficiency When Needs Differ” www.cesifo.org/en/publicati...

I'm in the FT talking tariffs 👇

Introducing our #EconJMC @agnetaberge.bsky.social. In her #EconJMP “Two-tier collective wage bargaining in a frictional labor market” she develops a general equilibrium model of two-tier bargaining, where central negotiations are supplemented with local adjustments bit.ly/4eUBDgR #econsky 1/6

One of the perks of waking up early to open the Library: seeing the Wren drenched in gold. ☀️
