This is a heartbreaking day for transgender youth and their families. However, it’s important to remember: even after today’s SCOTUS decision in U.S. v. Skrmetti, transgender young people will still be able to receive care in the states that have not banned it. ⬇️ View our map below.

This is upsetting news that comes on the same day that Supreme Court upholds a ban on access to care that reduces suicide risk among trans youth. Past data suggests that we can anticipate a surge in youth in need of crisis services today. Help is still available: www.thetrevorproject.org/get-help/

June 12th is Pulse Remembrance Day. Today we remember the victims of the Pulse Nightclub shooting in 2016.

A study from JAMA Pediatrics compares states that have permissive gun laws with others that have strict regulations. The states with tougher rules did not see a rise in gun deaths among children and teens.

"Women are PIs on 58% of the canceled grants, although they are PIs on only 34% of all active NSF grants. Similarly, Blacks are PIs on 17% of the terminated grants, although they make only 4% of the total pool. Hispanic PIs and those with disabilities were twice as likely to lose a grant."

I just noticed that NCHAT's @icpsr.bsky.social website has a new disclaimer "This repository is under review for potential modification in compliance with Administration directives." I am not sure what this means, but I wanted to let everyone know.

🚨 Over 70 graduate programs in the biological and biomedical sciences have frozen or slashed admissions. The consequences are profound—how many brilliant minds are being shut out of research entirely? How much future discovery is being lost before it even begins? docs.google.com/spreadsheets...

What are your favorite representations of asexual identities in the media? A student asked a question about examples of good representation of asexual folks in the media. My list is unsurprisingly short so I want to see if I'm missing any!

My research on the Split Attraction Model is a “trending” and “most read” article in Social Currents! I argue that sexual orientation ≠ romantic orientation. Asexuality shows us that romantic and sexual attraction can be unlinked. Free article here: d1wqtxts1xzle7.cloudfront.net/120026694/wi...

Our new report finds trans people face increased risks when required to use bathrooms according to their sex assigned at birth. Our previous research shows that allowing trans people to use bathrooms aligning with their gender identity doesn't jeopardize safety in these spaces. bit.ly/transrestroom

not paying indirect costs for research is like only paying the players in the Super Bowl. can't have a Super Bowl without coaches, referees, security, janitors, announcers, stadium staff, and a stadium - and you can't have research without supporting people and facilities

The phrase “this is alarming” feels overused this week…. But also this is alarming.

I cannot stress enough how important private funding will be for underrepresented (UR) scientists for the next 4 years. NSF and NIH fund summer research opportunities for UR undergrad students in STEM, mentoring programs starting in high school, funds for UR PhD students, & more.
