The Russian invasion of Ukraine has become a global conflict, with ripple effects in Africa where some young people openly support either Ukraine or Russia.

I played hackey sack with Sir Mix-A-Lot backstage before a show. We were bored and playing, he'd just left his hotboxed tour bus and thought it seemed fun. It was!

I stood next to Justice Sotomayor at the Multnomah Falls observation deck but didn't fully realize it was Justice Sotomayor until I clocked that I'd just walked right into the middle of a gaggle of Secret Service agents.

Folks, listen to my friend Jenice. @yellowfund.bsky.social does so much good. They fought the AL AG for the legal right to help people across state lines and WON. Give them money!

So it’s a grift.

Kid’s college graduation is Saturday at 1:30. Doors open at 12. No Kings protest starts at 11. Trying to figure out when I need to leave to stand a chance of getting a seat on light rail.

I was at a Seattle International Film Festival screening of the Oscar Wilde biopic "Wilde" starring Stephen Fry. I walked by a man standing in an aisle who looked a lot like Stephen Fry. Because he was Stephen Fry. It's weird seeing someone in the flesh that you've only ever seen on a screen.

My brother walked by a guy who looked vaguely familiar in a mall in Nashville. The guy started to look panicky so my brother just smiled & nodded & the guy relaxed & nodded back. Next morning a Country Music Awards photo revealed the guy was Robert Plant.

Woke also an elite r/w moral panic that has created an out group that’s so ‘dangerous’ it could be suppressed only with authoritarianism & violence. As Silone said, “Fascism was a counter-revolution against a revolution that never took place”.

‘If your tactics disrupt the order of things under capitalism, you may well be accused of violence, because “violence” is an elastic term often deployed to vilify people who threaten the status quo.’

If you read nothing else today or this week or this month, read this.

The ICE press release characterizing parents of elementary school children as anti-law-enforcement "agitators" is completely unsurprising.

From 1:45 pm until 11 pm, we were on the streets of Spokane, documenting and live-streaming peaceful community protests against ICE's detainment of two young men that were escalated by state violence. Here's everything we know: rangemedia.co/everything-w...

Evelyn Butler Tilden (1891 – 1983) was a US microbiologist who researched carbohydrates and bacteria in saliva at National Institutes of Health and Northwestern University Dental School. #WomenInSTEM

Researchers compiled a dataset that aggregates historical records on sundown towns in the United States, which are counties and cities that once enacted laws or practices to restrict the movement of racial minorities, mainly African Americans. www.nature.com/articles/s41...

In his latest column, Tobias Coughlin-Bogue tackles #Seattle's anti-ICE protests, rent-fixing algorithms, and, yes, public golf reform. From a dumpster fire to Premier Golf to renter protections, everything *is* political in South Seattle. Read the full column here: soseaem.org/4mZTmsc

Frederick Douglass (1869): “There are such things in the world as human rights. They rest upon no conventional foundation, but are external, universal, and indestructible.”

Hundreds rallied and marched through Seattle to protest ICE and mass deportations yesterday, with demonstrations ending at the federal building downtown. Read the full story with photos by Chloe Collyer here: soseaem.org/3SLiVj3 #SeattleProtests #ImmigrantRights

King recognized that urban environments in the North could absorb non-violent protests due to the social and cultural context of Northern cities. He learned this lesson quickly in Chicago and came to recognize that his tactics needed to become more disruptive to accomplish his aims.

Noem is now claiming (falsely) that Sen. Padilla didn't identify himself. Huh. I'd ask her to imagine how confusing it must be when masked men with guns don't identify themselves to people they're grabbing off the streets.

Are we really fucking doing this. Had nothing happened to Senator Padilla at all, what she was describing is a federal takeover of a major city by military force with no specified end-date, with no legal authority. Do not let the fascists talk their way out of that.

Reminder that seven Democratic senators voted to confirm Kristi Noem and six Dem senators declined to vote either way. She was confirmed, 59-34. The good faith experiment is clearly over, and we need the Democratic senators who didn't stand against her nomination to be loud as hell right now.

MSNBC with a great speed debunk of DHSs justifications for tackling and handcuffing Sen. Padilla. Padilla is the top Dem on the Senate Judiciary immigration subcommittee -- there's no way Noem (who meets regularly with senators on this topic) didn't know who he is.

277 men remain imprisoned at CECOT after they were illegally rendered without due process from the United States. (And one is, thankfully, back in the United States, facing Trumped up charges that were filed in a pathetic attempt to save face.)

I feel like something they fail to teach except maybe in college tier civics classes That in moments like you see today for every Mlk Jr type person they praise in history books it took a Malcom X type to scare the living shit out of them. For a dove to be viable others often have to be a brick

What a bunch of pathetic losers.
