RIP Alasdair MacIntyre

COYS

It’s always astonishing to read that the chief conman is misjudging the other party or being conned. He conned himself to presidency for god’s sake. Maybe his motives are elsewhere.

If I were Starmer, I would set up a £100 billion science fund, would substantially increase defence R&D and spending, boost spending on science education, would set up a science council with European partners and would create incentives for European companies to fund a science grant fund etc etc

It’s quite the opposite. He is not being radicalised with the “for you feed” but he is radicalising and brainwashing millions. Social media has been devastating for Western democracies. And we are in in the first inning only.

The sooner the better. But it should also involve technology independence.

I am not surprised at the lack of any strategic thinking about Syria as this happens every single time when it comes to foreign policy. Iran retreating is not winning the war. They have given up on Assad but not on Syria. It’s a tactical retreat. The alternative to Assad is not liberal democracy.

Regarding Syria, there is no cause for celebration. The positives end with the apparent sign of a weaking Russia and Iran. Otherwise, a new mess is going to be created. Many people seem to wish away all the red flags, for now.

1/4 According to Reuters, "more than three months after groundbreaking ceremony for the Funan Techo Canal that will link the Mekong River to the Gulf of Thailand, the site of the ceremony on the bank of the Mekong laid abandoned." www.reuters.com/world/asia-p...

This is quite mad. I would understand it if we started investing in defence technology. Defence R&D is the backbone of technological innovation and keeping scientists in the UK (rather than letting them migrate to the U.S.) should be top of the policy agenda of any UK government.

“Pyongyang has supplied Moscow’s army with long-range rocket and artillery systems, some of which have been moved to Russia’s Kursk region for an assault involving North Korean soldiers to push out Ukrainian forces, a Ukrainian intel assessment has found” www.ft.com/content/83ad...

Many folks know of Bluesky’s recent funding round from Blockchain Capital LLC. But this adds an interesting new dimension. Will be seeking answers on what interest Mr. Dorofeev has in this investment, given that he works for Russia’s state sanctioned social network, VK.
