I’m not so proud as to not admit that I’ve been wrong. So I gave THOSE ABOUT TO DIE another chance. The first half hour of the premiere episode was not that great but it improved and the second episode was even better. Safe to say that we’re going to finish the whole season.

Just to check if my memory is betraying me I put GLADIATOR on to compare it with the mess of a sequel I had to endure yesterday and it still holds up after 25 years. Every shot emanates gravitas, it has some of the finest dialogue and acting in blockbuster cinema and it looks just beautiful.

I finally got the time to watch GLADIATOR II and boy am I disappointed. I wanted to love this film so much but the historical inconsistencies were just too many to ignore to fully enjoy it. The first one wasn’t very accurate either but this was just too much of Mr. Scott’s fuck-the-facts attitude.

Tonight we have to choose between watching THE NIGHTINGALE, directed by Jennifer Kent who made THE BABADOOK, and CIVIL WAR by Alex Garland (EX MACHINA, ANNIHILATION). My wife prefers the former, I prefer the latter. Definitely a win-win situation!
