@caraellison.bsky.social Hi Cara, are you going to GDC?

Idea for gamedev consultants: You build out a GDC calendar for me based on my "goals." Please somebody do this. Looking at the sheer number of talks is too overwhelming.

I found some dorky customisable business cards in my craft box so I’m breaking my “no business cards” rule at GDC this year. There are only 12 cards though so only the most charming people will get one. This is how you network, right?

Did anyone else play Castle of the Winds back on Windows 3.1? Super vivid story, given the sparse graphics! My first roguelike and RPG, I think.

If you are pitching me games to cover at GDC, please put the games' links in the email!!! There are too many press emails for me to Google each of your games.

what kind of monster goes into a third-wave coffee shop and orders “a coffee”

An emerging trend in GDC PR emails: Roguelikes. Everything is a roguelike. Anything that bucks the trend is a roguelite.

I wish SOMEONE wasn’t giving ketamine such a bad rap. It’s a proven, FDA-approved treatment for depression. I can say that it’s helped me a lot.

it’s hard being a 1920x1200 girl in a 1920x1080 world

Does anyone else get really anxious on Saturday because that means Sunday is tomorrow, and after tomorrow comes Monday?

Did the Girl Scouts deprecate their s’more cookies? 😾

I’ve watched 130+ movies since June 2024 and I’ve noticed that my standards are WAY higher now. Movies I once would’ve term “good” are now “decent but ultimately forgettable.”

Hot take: The long-tail cast on is a load of rubbish. IYKYK. If you don’t know, good. Be glad you are untouched by this ritual of misery.

Real talk: the “you-coded characters” trend just strengthens a recent realisation that I had: I have no fucking idea who I actually am (outside of my job). Can anyone suggest any Katie-coded characters for me? 😿

Remember how we used to go to conferences and hunker down in the back rows, looking down at our laptops the whole time, copying everything the speaker said on Twitter. Livetweeting. What a time that was.

Look at this crazy yarn I found. It has a ready-made cat head! And it comes in different animals!!!

The UK English equivalent of “junk in the trunk” is “booty in the boot.”

I’ve been playing SH2 puzzles on hard mode, which was a mistake because they are largely inane lol, but I’ve been thinking a lot about one near the end. Its mechanic was beautiful, and its solution? Ridiculously simple for “hard mode” and so, so perfect for the game’s aesthetic.

San Franciscans — do you know of any car experts/consultants who can help me navigate the process of buying a car (likely used)? And finding secure parking in the Mission? I rented this beauty recently and now desperately need one of my own.

How World of Warcraft challenged me to become a kinder person: katiewilliams.medium.com/disdain-at-t... (I've been going through my old work and republishing a bunch of stuff again. Expect to see more links to articles from a decade ago, lol)

My Google search history after my hire car got upgraded: • how much is a dodge challenger • how much is a dodge challenger lease • monthly parking cost in sf • how much of your salary should go to car payment

Okay but is there a Luigi one yet?

Is there a space-efficient way of storing board games? Anyone have any pointers or ideas? I love them but man do they take up a fuckton of space in my closets and I’m questioning whether it’s worth it when I play them so infrequently.

Was Toluca Prison always so large that it required six maps?! That was the bit I found most mercilessly horrifying in the original SH2 and now there are SIX MAPS OF HORROR omg
