Not gonna happen but a pretty clever way to show that Trump is 1000% full of shit

This! If you’re going to parrot these numbers at least tell people about the debit side of the ledger. Tell people about the cancer research that’s been halted and the park rangers who lost their jobs.

Yes, exactly this. Trump surely believes Europe can be sidelined over Ukraine. He’s very likely wrong about this. Biggest question for me is how exactly he’ll lash out when this starts to dawn on him.

If there’s anything he values more than money it’s subjugating black people who got too big for their britches so yeah that timeline tracks

Yeah “turmoil” and “injecting politics” isn’t gonna cut it here fellas. Installing loyalists at the top of the military chain of command is not some plausibly deniable bureaucratic maneuver. It’s paving the way for authoritarianism. It basically IS authoritarianism. No other explanation.

Be fair we can’t expect them to have heard of…Colin Powell

If only someone in DC had figured out during the whole Gaza thing that arms transfers really can generate leverage

No reason, but worth mentioning that a great way to ensure loyalty among your underlings is to promote unqualified people who couldn’t possibly hope to achieve that status without dear leader.

I remember democrats facing these in 2009-10. These things scare the shit out of electeds.

I mean, he has a plan. It’s just to irreparably break as much of the federal govt as possible so it can no longer exercise oversight or collect taxes. Wantonly fucking shit up is the point. Drug addled chainsaw swinging is actually a pretty solid summary of his whole job description here.

And yet somehow half the population will be surprised to learn that the Fed is better at maintaining financial stability than a bunch of tech bros shitposting about hawk tuah memecoins

I'll say again, it's actually a remarkable accomplishment of modernity that so many people are able to survive so comfortably while remaining so fucking ignorant about absolutely everything, all despite having unfathomable amounts of reliable information at their fingertips 24/7.

Every act of bravery gives cover for others to be brave. It also forces the administration to get their hands dirty and actually do all the bad, awful, terrible...and maybe legally actionable things they constantly threaten. That alienates people and creates liabilities. More of this.

For decades Republicans’ whole strategy has been: 1) break the government, then 2) get elected by shitting on the government for being so broken. The whole schtick only works, though, if people don’t think you’ve intentionally broken the government. These assholes are leaving no doubt.

The rule of law was cool while it lasted

The two month long stretch of media pearl clutching over civility and decorum would turn me into the gd joker

Beshear has to run for Mitch's seat, yeah? His 2nd term as gov is up the following year.

Is there some kind of online tracker for all this? I’ve already totally lost the handle on all of it and would like to know which parts of our govt get to keep functioning and which just die.

My soul is little more than a deep reservoir of scorn for people who use terms like “incremental utility” to sound smart but have absolutely no idea what it means or how it would factor into a rational cost/benefit calculation.

I have so many incredibly talented friends and students who have dedicated their lives to public service and gotten their foot in the door through the PMF program. These fucking ghouls are just wrecking everything that’s good about this country.

Pretty clear that Trump was running out of money and agreed that Musk would bankroll his campaign in exchange for Trump letting him personally ransack the federal govt if they won. Maybe the most shocking part is that Musk did this while spending LESS THAN I DID on the race as a share of net worth.

Keep going folks. Everything feels terrible and overwhelming, and most of it is. But keep shouting from the rooftops and it can break through.

I have so little sympathy for these people. Their cowardice ensures that thousands of ordinary people also get these kinds of threats every single day. Talk to your fellow cowards, coordinate your actions, and use your power to do the shit you swore an oath to do.

Not great, Bob.

Yeah no shit, Dems. He’s trying to end democracy. We know this. Our job is to make him do it on our terms. Publicly. Visibly. In ugly, abhorrent, and alienating ways. Don’t let him fucking do it quietly through a bunch of obscure EOs. Force him to take the path that generates maximum resistance.

It's collective action problems all the way down. Always has been...from the moment he came down that fucking escalator. And it gets harder to resolve the more he consolidates institutional power.

Coward shit. Institutional neutrality does not apply to government actions that fundamentally undermine the university's basic purpose. Silence will not protect Purdue. Purdue will not protect its people. www.purdueexponent.org/campus/gener...

Yes. And write. The clearer it becomes that there’s a scholarly consensus that e.g. the US is going through democratic backsliding, the firmer ground every one of us is on to just teach this straightforwardly rather than feeling compelled to “both sides” it as some legitimate debate.

Same here. Share widely. And consider signing if you made the same questionable career choices I did.

Ummm…wahoowa?

The assumption that “working class” or “blue collar” just means “status-insecure white people” is one of the more maddeningly immovable objects in American politics.

Yeah but Obama invited Common to perform so six of one…

Wild to think how strong a position the US would be in geopolitically if it weren’t just shooting itself in both feet. Russia’s military and economy devastated. China stagnating, in massive debt, and falling off a demographic cliff. Europe…adrift at best. An own goal of unbelievable proportions.

And the “would be” part is hanging by a pretty flimsy thread
