If you drive in Toronto you know the name “Gardiner”. The waterfront expressway was named after the man who dominated Toronto politics at a crucial point in its history: Frederick Goldwyn Gardiner, or “Big Daddy” as he was known.

I feel like the Sam Rockwell scene in The White Lotus is to s3 what The Rat was to The Walkmen's career. 4.5 minutes so elevated and thrilling that whatever came before or after, no matter how good, feels like a bit of a letdown.

This week on City Space...In 1914 a British city planner named Thomas Mawson put together a comprehensive city plan that would have turned the prairie town of Calgary into "Vienna on the Bow". You can see his vision below. www.theglobeandmail.com/podcasts/art...

We did an episode of City Space looking at the issue of ER wait times. We spoke with multiple ER doctors and not one pointed to patients misdiagnosing themselves as part of the problem. A link for those interested: www.theglobeandmail.com/podcasts/art...

On the latest episode of City Space we're looking at expropriation as a possible solution to our housing crisis. In 2021, 59% of Berliners voted in favour to expropriating 11% of the cities' private apartment buildings from corporate landlords and converting them to public housing.

Season 5 of City Space launched today, with a look at how bike lanes have become a divisive political issue in Toronto. Doug Ford's provincial government recently pledged to remove three prominent bike lanes in the city despite overwhelming data that shows that they make our streets safer.

Luka and LeBron at dinner tonight.

I can only assume that everyone in the Trump administration and the voters supporting him must have watched every movie and heard every story and said to themselves “that villain seems cool” How does one miss the point of the last 2000 years?

Season 5 of City Space launches next week. We'll be talking about bike lanes, housing expropriation, indigenous reconciliation in action, and a number of other ongoing urban debates. Excited for you all to listen!

Really wish this had been announced at Comic-Con. Nolan - “So you like IP, eh?” Crowd - “wooooo!!!” Nolan - “how about….the original IP?” Crowd - “say whaaaaaaaaaaaaa?!?!”

"The George Raft look is dead. I want an Audie Murphy."

I doubt Alphonse even listened to the full hour.

The horror.

Anyone watching the actual game instead of this is a communist.
