A sorry state of affairs for one of my favorite mirrors OSU OSL - www.theregister.com/2025/05/02/o.... For whatever reason, they were always my mirror of choice anytime they were in the list for many years, tho I've tended towards more Midwestern mirrors lately.

Almost forgot! I wanted to congratulate Proxmox - the best virtualization platform, IMHO - on their *20th anniversary* - forum.proxmox.com/threads/cele.... The mail gateway product was released in 2005, and the virtual environment in 2008. I've personally been using PVE since about 2010. Kudos!

1/Given a multi-$trillion budget and access to the best coders/security folks in the world (NSA, etc.) it blows my mind that our govt. uses a hacky version of Signal for "private" (not for long!) messaging - micahflee.com/heres-the-so.... If there are flaws/backdoors, they will ALWAYS be found.

The fellas at the Organized Money pod have a pretty great episode with special guest Jonathan Kanter, former Assistant AG for DOJ's antitrust division during the Biden admin - www.organizedmoney.fm/p/video-and-.... The ep is great discussion of antitrust during the Biden era.

1/Good morning BSky fam! About halfway through, and "More Everything Forever" is a treasure trove of lunacy, e.g. Eliezer Yudkowsky and the cult of rationalism/longtermism. But I'm not going to pick on them today, bc the amateur psychologist in me has a theory about where their ideas come from.

I promise I'm not a fanboi, I just had to post this one more: If you thought the theater from yesterday was cool, hold on to your hats and check out the Leap for Mankind (leap-for-mankind.com). Much props to @aurelienvigne.bsky.social and his mad skills. 👌

1/Good morning fellow #developers! Tho I'm a staunch proponent of #EntityFramework, the longer I write software, the more I agree with Rico Fritzsche's sentiment - blog.ricofritzsche.de/zero-abstrac.... I could envision a day where control and/or performance would drive me to write my own SQL layer.

If you want to see something really cool (and waste an hour of your workday as a racoon wandering through a theater 😜) check out Aurel's Grand Theater, by @aurelienvigne.bsky.social. As a dev who struggles to line up form fields, sites like this one completely blow my mind. Fantastic work and bravo!

Logistics Essentials, the first software package offering from #KylosonTech - kyloson.com/logistics-es....

1/Started on a doozy of a book, Adam Becker's "More Everything Forever: AI Overlords, Space Empires, and Silicon Valley's Crusade to Control the Fate of Humanity" (bookshop.org/p/books/more...). I didn't think it possible for me to respect Silicon Valley billionaires any less. Little did I know! 💙📚

The first Kyloson Tech™ t-shirts arrived this week! Very much digging our logo, designed by my good friend Christine Gofron at Mission & Vision Studio.

1/Good morning BSky fam! Just wrapped up Michael Cannell's "Blood and the Badge: The Mafia, Two Killer Cops, and a Scandal That Shocked the Nation" (bookshop.org/p/books/bloo...) about the "Mafia Cops" Louis Eppolito and Stephen Caracappa. Recommended for anyone who digs stories about the mafia. 💙📚

1/I hate to say it, but corruption plagues #STL city/county like a cancer that's spread through the body. You see it in the surrounding municipalities and counties too (East STL, IL for example). Schools are a mess and the police have been taken over by the state - www.stlpr.org/government-p....

Tying together a couple of today's themes, I want to run the kind of company that, if faced with the choice of exploiting America's National Parks for profit, would say NO. There are things in life more precious than money, and the term "community" includes the country I live in too.

Anyone else a bit alarmed by a proposed gutting of science, health, and agencies that serve the most vulnerable while increasing Homeland Security spending by 65% - open.substack.com/pub/donmoyni.... Could you even come up with a more Orwellian name than "Department of Homeland Security"?
