Messed that up in the post; Bluesky doesn't allow post editing. Intended was to say that their programming would have been affected if it were on a broadcast channel. In my ominous, the doctrine should have been expanded to cable.

You came into this thread and made the assertion that I'm wrong. It's on you to back it up. Not gonna bother? Sounds like a bad faith argument. Just trying to create controversy for the hell of it? Go back under your bridge, troll.

OK. Educate me.

It did regulate news in that it required differing viewpoints to be discussed. You're right about the cable news part; I meant to say "If it applied to them"; screwed it up on edit.

I agree. The thread is going over all media, as in "where can I get fair unbiased news?" Even the newspapers are controlled at this point.

Those subscriptions to the AP news service (a nonprofit organization) go back over a century. Supposedly this is cost cutting to hire more journalists in house. In house sounds a bit like asserting more control of the narrative. I hope I'm wrong. 🧵 5/5 fin www.washingtonpost.com/style/media/...

But what about the local papers? Many aren't really local anymore - Gannett Media and McClatchy Corp are the biggest owners. Gannett owns USA Today. Both ended their agreement to publish AP stories as of March this year. 🧵 4/5 apnews.com/article/gann...

This goes beyond cable news into local stations though, thanks to Sinclair Media Group. They own a vast majority of local broadcast stations, and they've used that influence to control narrative in a biased way. 🧵 3/5 www.theguardian.com/us-news/arti...

The repeal of the Fairness Doctrine in 1987 by the FCC did damage we're still feeling today. It's what allows for such a skew in reporting, from either end. Fox News and MSNBC in its current form wouldn't survive if it were still a thing. 🧵 2/5 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fairnes...

The closest I can think of is old school nobility sponsorships, which today I think is laureate work.

Is it work? Yes. Is it less convenient? Yes. Is it cheaper? YES. There's no way you spend more money making a pizza than buying the same amount of pizza. Economy of scale and meal prepping are things too. If it's all ready to go and just needs a reheat, that's all of five minutes. 🧵 (3/3 fin)

Have your roast, use the bones for stock, make soup from some of it, use some of the stock to make sauces for the next thing, on and on. Make a big pot of rice, have some for that meal. Next meal reheat, or make fried rice. 🧵 (2/3)
