You really have to hand it to Putin. He conquered the US without lobbing a single bomb, just a bunch of memes. He banked on there being more useful idiots in this country than useless ones, and he was right. The most impressive hearts and minds campaign in history.

Feels timely

Gulf of America is the new Freedom Fries

Today in the US is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, commemorating the legendary civil right activist and socialist who was murdered supporting a strike of sanitation workers. While lauded today, when alive he was demonised by politicians and media. stories.workingclasshistory.c...

I don’t even know how to cope psychologically with the fact that American lawmakers are apparently more motivated to ban TikTok than they are to fix gun control, guarantee bodily autonomy for all, or reject fascism

What we didn’t hear today from a Dem Senator- “Attorney General Bondi, may I remind you that Trump is a convicted felon, indicted by four separate grand juries and found guilty of 35 felony counts by a NY jury.” It would’ve taken 10 seconds to say this and shut down the “weaponization” garbage.

the main thing i've been trying to do in poems lately is surprise myself somehow in every line and idk if the poems are good but it's a helluva lot of fun

Driving north on Cloverfield north of the 10 I could finally see the hills, not because the fire is finally under control but because there is nothing left to burn

Parts of Pasadena and Altadena are historic Black enclaves that are often overlooked in the narrative of Black L.A. I heard from my hair stylist yesterday that her older Black mother lost her house. And there are so many stories like these emerging. This is so devastating.

I work in a converted agricultural warehouse from 1930’s with an entirely wood roof. It’s beautiful, but I’m going to heed this warning and get the eff out from under it.

Driving to work this morning felt a little like driving during a hurricane when I live on the south eastern coast of the US, only fire

The border of the evacuation zone is 1 1/2 miles directly north of my office which is a mile north of my apartment. It hasn’t moved since yesterday. The biggest difference between today and yesterday is the smoke and ash. No wind to push them out. Helicopters have finally started as well.

I often show this video in class, and students routinely have a lot to say in response. Opens up a discussion about the linkages between structural racism, mass incarceration, labor exploitation, and climate change, among other things. youtu.be/XM5voSl6eWA?...

Palisades fire getting increasingly hellscape-y. The one consolation being the wind is pushing the billows out over the Pacific. This was about an hour ago.

The Pallisades fire from my office. It’s getting close.

Can't help but comment on the Meta news today because I'm old enough to remember when a literal genocide was organized on Facebook. This article from the systemic justice project at Harvard Law School argues how lack of moderation will allow it to happen again systemicjustice.org/article/face...

Me? Oh nothing. Just adding depth and complexity to a can of chickpeas. And I’m not even writing a poem. Thanks for asking.
