walking home after the Spirit's Challenge Cup victory, past the Giant Food: the store's closed but they're still piping out music, usually awful. but this time, wait, the piano is familiar and my god are they actually playing Tori?!? so haha i had to wait outside the Giant until Cornflake Girl ended

THE WASHINGTON SPIRIT ARE YOUR 2025 CHALLENGE CUP CHAMPS!! 🏆 Presented by @elfcosmetics.bsky.social

first Spirit goal of 2025, and it's a banger

the prison system has always been primarily about weaponizing sexual violence against persons of color and the poor, to break and humiliate black and brown bodies. but don't look away from what the so-called Justice Department is doing now, openly defying the law to expose trans inmates to rape

finished Neko Case's powerful and moving memoir, THE HARDER I FIGHT THE MORE I LOVE YOU, which brought me multiple times to tears. highly recommended

neko x Neko

why did i get myself a figure that will only make me cry? #Nanachi #Mitty #MadeInAbyss

this is the part of each day i look forward to, when i've just finished my supper, and Audrey has finished her supper, and she naps beside me as i sit in the warm kotatsu

Washington Spirit fanfest in the afternoon; theater in the evening. tonight we've got John Kani presenting his Lear-inspired play at the Shakespeare Theater. the program contains this amazing description of his experience playing Othello in its first mixed-race performance in apartheid South Africa

the liberty bell is still ringing and Philadelphia is still answering the call. good on you, Philly 🏳️‍⚧️

now that i finally got to see Alcest live, which was bucket list for me, it's past time for Red Sparowes to reunite. next year will be the 20th anniversary of Every Red Heart Shines Toward the Red Sun, maybe my favorite post-rock album of them all #RedSparowes #PostRock

heading to Baltimore to see Alcest tonight for the first time! i am so excited. among the older songs, i really hope they play Eclosion #alcest

Slavin is like the Naomi Girma of hockey

Sentnor SENT! IT! #USWNT x @VW

Ally Sentnor rocket. what a gorgeous goal

USWNT v Colombia ⚽ on one screen and US-Canada 🏒 on the other

Quite an exchange here between Judge Reyes and DOJ attorney on how "pronoun usage" affects military readiness.

Video of Andi Sullivan announcing her pregnancy in a team meeting has gone a bit viral thanks to her teammates’ reactions. So @838carlisle.bsky.social decided to do something silly, and rank them. thedistrictpress.com/2025/02/15/r... #nwsl #washingtonspirit

someone sang "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out" at vegan singles karaoke tonight (spoiler: it was me)

i wanted this figure for a long time, and i finally found one (pre-owned, but unopened) for a fair price yay #LaidBackCamp #YuruCamp #RinShima #ShimaRin

gosh, i love Alcest (who are blasting through my headphones rn). can hardly believe i'm finally getting to see them live for the first time next week

Erasing our history won't erase us. Transgender people have always been here — and we always will be.

some great sports writing in this recap of Plymouth Argyle's seismic FA Cup upset of Liverpool: "As the stands finally emptied the seagulls arrived, baying and braying, circling the stadium in search of discarded chips and scraps of burger bun. But for once, they had missed the best of the feast."

‪thinking about where we might be if all the scared boys who were told, "get in the fucking robot, Shinji" were instead told, "Beautiful boy, 自分の美しさまだ知らないの; it's only love" #eva #evangelion

i appreciated their earlier work, but Hail to the Thief was the album where i really *got* Radiohead: their cynical, dystopic vision finally finding a commensurate subject in Bush/Cheney's nihilism. i've been living in this album again lately, and it's as horrifying and angry and cathartic as ever

"Democrats have not shown a set of social values, or a theory of governance, or anything like a commitment to principle. They have not stood up for targeted groups, or articulated a real vision of democracy; they have never picked a bold fight, [nor] taken a stand that they don’t back down from"

"Something that should be said more often is that the reason authoritarians are authoritarians is that they’re unpopular. . . . [N]ot being scared and not obeying helps demonstrate how finite their power is and how much of ours remains even in the bleakest circumstances."

"maybe you'll be President, but know right from wrong." when this album came out in 2003, i couldn't contemplate it possibly being worse than Bush/Cheney and the racist violence they reveled in at home and abroad . . . but now look how wrong i was

had a lovely all-vegan meal at Equinox in DC. (descriptions of the dishes in the alt tags)
