"Fragments of the oldest rune stone in the world were found in an ancient Norwegian burial ground ... they must have been inscribed from about 50 BC and 275 AD." #AncientBluesky www.popularmechanics.com/science/arch...

Today’s #frescoFriday is my photo 📸 of the “fisherman” fresco of Akrotiri circa 1650 BC displayed at the Museum of Prehistoric Thera. This is considered a classic example of Minoan art. He is holding a good catch of mackerel or tuna (they look tasty too). #ancientBluesky #archaeology

Behold the exquisite detail of this statue in #DunfermlineAbbey, #Fife, #Scotland. Erected in 1867 by the widow of Major General the Hon. Robert Bruce. His feet being crossed indicates that he was a crusader. Her love, lives on, beautifully and eternally in death. #death #grief #grave

This was just a crow. That never fit in anywhere in its life, or did anything worth mentioning. It sat there on the branch for a few minutes. Then picked up and flew beautifully out of my life. - My Crow by Raymond Carver #Poetry #LiteratureSky 💙📚👀

Camille Claudel. Born in 1864. Died in 1943—forgotten by the world, left to languish in a mental hospital for 30 years. Staff insisted she didn’t belong there. Died of malnutrition. No family members attended her funeral. Buried in common grave with many destitutes. Now a celebrated artist.

Sainte-Chapelle, Île de la Cité, Paris. A breathtaking jewel of Gothic architecture with stained-glass windows which create dazzling walls of light. Built 1242-1248. 📷 by me www.sainte-chapelle.fr/en/discover/... #StainedGlassSunday

#StainedGlassSunday Arts & Crafts window by J Edgar Mitchell fills entry staircase of Newcastle's Laing Art Gallery. Designed for 1904 opening to celebrate coming together of painting, sculpture, decorative + other arts, w cIty coat of arms at top. In storage for years until restored for centenary.

During a couple of hours sight seeing in Koblenz, Germany, this item of statuary caught my eye. ‘Grabmal in Rom’ intrigued me. My limited translation skills had it as ‘Monument in Rome’, but perhaps not? …and the connection with Italy?
