How can we solve the youth mental health crisis? NEW PAPER: Let's try something new but evidence-based like mass-screening for low mental wellbeing, which is a predictor of future mental health according to the dual continua model. kwnsfk27.r.eu-west-1.awstrack.me/L0/https:%2F...

If I could train to become an interoceptologist, I would. Brain-body states are at the centre of both mental and physical health. Great piece

My father-in-law retired from academia in the ‘90’s. I don’t think he recognise the profession now and would be dismayed to hear how staff are struggling these days. Extremely proud of @xuanluu.bsky.social for leading this quality qual work. Please follow him - PhD due for submission soon…

For new consciousness followers, this is my main contribution to consciousness science. CLaE is worth a follow as well for lots of good neuro links...

Good vibes to you all from our salt shaker

In which @evanthompson.bsky.social discusses clock time and the time of the philosopher and the famous Einstein/Bergson debate: “[Einstein’s]real mistake… was his view that physical time, defined through the measurements of clocks, was more fundamental than lived time.” aeon.co/essays/who-r...

Postural balance is taken as a subsidiary motor task, not a homeostatic task like thermoregulation. But balance and sensations of weight have a valenced aspect which permeates experience and emotion not unlike hot-cold sensations do. (In)congruous? #neuroscience link.springer.com/article/10.1...

Hi everyone, my student is looking for participants aged 18 years and above for their research project investigating the moderating effect of gratitude on the relationship between emotional intelligence and forgiveness. (more details below) t.co/KObVXUoSDU

I really enjoyed reading this extremely well-written and provocative piece on #interoception If I understood correctly, in contrast to most exteroception, interoception is slower, coarser, more compressed, and more integrated. Interested what the authors think about graviception as interoception

Unfortunately we’ve had to postpone the talk. New date/time to follow soon, apologies

🚨 Talk alert 🚨 Livestream with the Active Inference Institute on my theory of mental gravity. Thursday 22nd Feb at UTC 19:00. Panel includes @annaciaunica.bsky.social and Georg Northoff but will include an open Q&A as well.

Have we considered a sponsor-based peer-review system? Based on a recent experience, I think it could work well, especially for early career academics like me. It could also help more senior academics get recognition for informal mentoring and reviewing. Here’s what happened…

Great piece on growing climate hope and reducing climate anxiety while simultaneously acknowledging the crisis. Fear was needed a decade ago to kickstart action. Now that action has traction, kids especially need more of the good news

This is an amazing video produced for our kickoff ceremony of the Ann S. Bowers Women's Brain Health Initiative, led by @emilyjacobs.bsky.social www.youtube.com/watch?v=tX5u...

lol my boss just called me into her office and told me I've been spending too much time on bluesky. Hold on she's saying something else now

Gravity and graviception are understudied across all mind and health sciences, I think. It’s so fundamental and affects so many higher-order functions, including selfhood. Even depression and anxiety are implicated. Dizziness is just the tip of the iceberg

Thrilled to say that our new paper, ‘Insight in the conspiracist’s mind’, is finally out in Personality and Social Psychology Review. With stellar co-authors @joberv.bsky.social @stephengadsby.bsky.social David Gijbels Karolien Poels journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/...

Hi #academicsky I feel cripplingly lonely doing my PhD with no peers at my age (22) and no peers outside of academia at the same stage of life as me. I feel disconnected and isolated socially, especially being queer and neurodivergent. I am reaching out to try to find others like me #PhDsky

Our latest work asks how is time represented? Do mental representations have time as an intrinsic property? We test this hypothesis by looking for a temporal correspondence between timing of a perceptual process and its temporal experience link.springer.com/article/10.3... #consciousness #cogsci 🧵

I’m working on a “mental gravity” hypothesis to explain how graviception shapes higher-order cognition. Today I stumbled on the idea of “cognitive tropism” (link below). Tropism in biology is when organisms grow or move in a particular direction - towards light, water, nutrients, heat etc. 1/

Hello fellow emotion researchers! I just made a feed for all things related to Affective Science. Check it out! Current tag is #AffectSci bsky.app/profile/did:... @markrubin.bsky.social

It’s been a good few weeks. Had a paper published. My charity landed a big grant that may have bought us long-term viability. My contract was renewed. The sun’s out in Melbourne. My kids are well. My partner’s happy. I’m running most days. Singing/playing a lot. Next paper’s nearly done. Happy days
